Start Earning your 3x Slot Points at Mandalay Bay

I received an e-mail today with the above as the subject line. The promo is through May and is exclusively for locals. The big caveat is that the multiplier kicks in once you've earned 650 points. By earning the 650 points you also get a free buffet. Any thoughts on how good this promo is are welcome. Thanx.

I read mine differently. I think it means you start earning 3x points right away but you have to earn 650 BASE points before you get the buffet.

Other opinions???

This is a great promo. .Two tenths edge on 9/6 JOB. Well financed pros will crush the high limit JOB. Then they will be eating gourmet meals high fiving each other over their 100K Royals.

I went in today with my Nevada ID and asked about this. Apparently its not just for any local. you must have gotten the email or physical mailer to be eligible for 3x.

This is a great promo. .Two tenths edge on 9/6 JOB. Well financed pros will crush the high limit JOB. Then they will be eating gourmet meals high fiving each other over their 100K Royals.

Hold those high-fives. If you don't hit a royal you are playing a 99% game even with the promo.
If you go 50,000 hands without a royal at $125 a spin you figure to be down in the neighborhood of 60 grand-and likely in no mood for high fives.

Video poker is always a losing proposition if you don't include the return from a royal. If you can afford $125 a spin you are going to be willing to lose $60,000 chasing a profitable play.

Well, not really. There are promotions that give you a freeroll or better at a royal. Of course the obvious ones have long since been burned out. Some good games to look out for are All American with the 250 quad, 6-7-8 2 pair or better Joker Poker, and Bonus Deluxe or Double-Double Bonus with a return of 2 for 2 pair, and certain versions of Flush Attack.

For the record, I ain't seen nuthin', so don't bother asking me where these games might be found.

But, careful scouting can be very lucrative.

1% of 600k is 6k, not 60k. If you lost 60k on 600k your either unlucky or can't play. You must always trust the math and play with confidence.

Hi,
It it even better than that because it is 3x holdiays points as well.
Assuming the same redemption rate of 30,000 holiday pts = $100 of free play from last year is valid this year we have:

Base Points:
450 pts = $1 free play x 3 = 0.22% x 3 = ~0.67%
30000 holdiay pts = $100 free play x 3 = .074% x 3 = 0.22%

Total EV
9/6 JOB 99.54 + 0.67 + 0.22 = 100.43% !

I doubt that the 9/6 JOB will be eligible for this promotion for more than a day.

He said 50,000 hands. Slightly more than the royal cycle and more than slim chance not to hit a royal. that's over 6 million coin in, not 600k. and getting away only down 60k would be nice.

Yes, thank you TBF.
To clarify, I do "trust the math" James Thompson, which is why I will NOT be playing this "great promotion" at the $25 machines. Nor do I expect many high-fives to be evident.
Here' why:
1. I think we all can agree that a 50,000 hand royal drought is NOT uncommon at JOB?
2. 50,000 hands on a $25 machine is $6.25 million coin-in.
3. A 100.2% game will return, without a royal, approximately 98.2%.
4. This will result in a loss of approximately $125,000. With no guarantee that the next hand will be a royal. Even if it was-you're still down $25,000.
5. Most of us (at least me ) would have long gone broke or insane by this point. Not likely candidates for "high-fives'.
6. is the above "strategy" really much different from that which advocates bringing $57,000 into the casino and be prepared to lose it all playing some convuluted progression scheme?

Now, if MB had the game in dollars, halves or quarters it WOULD be "a great promotion". But since most of us aren't prepared to blithely drop six figures on a "game" it sucks-plain and simple.

What many people don't consider with high denomination promotions like this is even if you are very well bankrolled, the volitility of this machine can be huge. On paper its a great game, but say they cancel the promotion (or downgrade) after your first day playing and you're stuck 100k. Who knows if you will get another opportunity like that this year to log more hours and make up the loss. With IRS regulations not letting you roll over your loss to the following year, you can end up very bad off. If you could guarantee you would get in a certain number of hands in the promotion, a lot more people would play the highest denominations for promos like these.
