I recently visited the Stardust and found the 2 Bonus deuces
machines. I put my slot card in and began to play. No slot points
seemed to be registering.
I flagged down a slot attendand who got a slot technician working
nearby to come over. He stated that the machines were too old to be
compatible with their computer system and no points would be
recorded. He also stated that the two sigma machines were scheduled
to be removed.

So basically, they're doing the same thing with the machines that they've
been doing with their old customers?

You know how personally I feel personally against the Stardust. Considering I once was comped without question for meals and rooms. And NOT because of my play so much, but more because I brought a lot of new "black chip" players to their crap tables. That was the old days when the human element was in the Stardust. They used to consider what it took to get and keep loyal customers.
Then, about 1995 they started to go downhill. Management must have changed policies drastically. Many of the older pit bosses suddenly were telling me, "Allen, I can't comp you at your levels without my ass being on the line..." Most of those good old boys slowly started disappearing on subsequent trips.
IMHO, the Stardust went to a pure "let the computer track and make the calls". This also applied to VP machines as well. I saw them removing 9/6 Jacks or better and FPDW. My offers dropped to a mere drop in the bucket. It all became a number's game and they forgot that those numbers translate into real human beings. It's no wonder their casino looks empty. They did it to themselves. No one feels welcome there any more.
I know your own father, by your accounts, could tell a million stories similar to the ones I've touched on above.
At least in the mob days, if you gambled, you got comped. If you cheated, you disappeared, but you always knew where you stood. So, who's the bigger crook now? The "mob", or the corporate CEO's who now use lawyers to "bury you in the desert".

Yup. As you know, we stayed there regularly for about three years and began
to notice the same creeping impersonality prior to moving over to the
Flamingo, where they were relatively cold and impersonal to begin with, so
we never noticed anything wrong.

But now, where is that NOT the case? No bounce, no play. Not sure exactly
what that means, but it's in a book I'm reading and I've wanted to use it in
a post somewhere, and it sounds profound in a folksy kind of way.

Yes he's got some great stories, but so do we. We'll have to tell the one
about our system and the guy with the ring in his nose one of these days.
