Spirit Airlines Press Release

The only way I am willing to fly on Spirit is if I pay the extra for a
seat with extra legroom. They have such seats. By the way it took a major
effort to get a free flight from them. They told me I had applied too soon
(you can't just do it on their web site) and then when I applied on the
first possible day they said they had no room. I appealed by phone and hit
someone sympathetic and got my flight but that was the end of that. Friends wh
o are shorter (32 inch inseam here) do use the airline and appreciate the
special great fares.

I guess I look at it this way:
There are other options. If you don't like the rules that accompany their prices, choose United or Northwest or Delta or some other mainstream carrier.

We fly Allegiant Air from Rapid City, SD to Vegas exclusively. They are another bargain basement airline, however they suit us just fine. We think extra luggage is not worth the hassle, the extra weight and the waiting at a baggage claim, so we always pack carefully and just take carry-ons.

We used to not pay for assigned seats and NEVER had to sit apart. The airline staff worked their magic and always got us adjoining seats. Now, we usually pay the extra because A) we want to sit in the front so as to bypass the waiting in a cramped space and be last on/first off and B) we can print our boarding passes at home and not have to wait at the counter - no more 2 hour wait at the airport.

We've gotten flights ranging from $99 one way to our last tickets which were $29 each way.

The savings do right by us. We're able to take advantage of their amazing prices and that enables us to visit Vegas 2 or 3 times a year instead of just 1.

So, if you don't like the rules and regs, spend the $ to get what you want. Otherwise, let us thrifty folk enjoy our savings with a smile.

Thanks!
