Speaking of Progressives....

Why has the play on the Palms $1 Double Bonus progressives dropped so much since they were converted from slants to uprights? Is it all about comfort?

It's all about how much you LOSE if you don't get a royal at that game.

For me, comfort means alot. Uprights are very uncomfortable.

I will check the meter-rise, next time I'm there and see if it's only the form factor that's changed. It was .5% split between the 5 meters evenly.

I don't play them, because if one does, one gets no mailer.

Everyone seems to think the 10 play quarter 6/9 is better overall if you include the mailer.

Truth to tell, it's very close...

I have heard it from a friend that they have dropped the meter-rise from .5% split, to .25% split. That's only 1/20th of a percent going on each meter.

I forgot to mention my in last reply that this very progressive is covered in detail on pages 127-130 of my book.

Also, 1/2 the meter-rise is not half as good to a player. It can be as bad as 1/30th as good. This is WAY to complicated to elaborate on here. It's covered on pages 95-102 of my book, with a summation on page 103 entitled, "If You Put it all Together".

I will check this meter myself soon. Until then consider the info about the MR hearsay. It was from a normally reliable source...Johnny the shoeshine boy...I slipped him $20.

Frank, were you able to include a strategy for this game in your book? This has to be one of the toughest games to develop an accurate strategy for because of the four meters.

The description of this particular progressive is in the section on calculating the value of meter-rise when their are multiple meters, and you are playing until you hit only one or two of them. So it's in the section on calculating return, not the section on strategy.

There are comprehensive instructions on how to create progressive strategies for a meter like this, but not the actual strategy for that bank. How to calculate when to play it, is covered in detail.

Since nearly every bank of progressives is different, I felt that explaining how to make strategies, would be far more useful than filling the book with strategies for games that might not be there in 6-months. I didn't want to date it. Also, when I did research for the book, I noticed that all the VP books out at the time had pre-generated strategies, but none explained how they were made, or told people how to make their own. I wanted to be different. I even included how the VP computer programs work, primarily to give people more confidence in using them.

The math never changes, the games and progressives do. To be a progressive pro you have to learn to fish, not have one served up on a platter.

I will be adding some pre-generated progressive strategies to my web-site, as soon as I have a feel for what's needed.

In summary: the strategy for this game is not in the book, but how to make it yourself is.

Thanks, Frank. Sounds like a good enough reason for me to buy a copy of the book.
