Speaking of Harrah's rants ...

Anybody here benefit from Harrah's Joliet $5+ mil mess up?

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-harrahs20.html

Not I, but I have heard of a few people who did. I heard these coupons were
for BB for folks who played 11/7-11/13 and that leaves us out. I'm guessing
they'll spend a little more time proofreading in the future.

No this wasn't a promotional gimmick................it was a BIG MISTAKE...........At first when they realized to many coupons were being cashed, they stopped honoring them. Told the people to turn in their coupon for $525 and they would give them reward points instead. Only after the gaming board informed Harrahs they HAD to honor the coupons did they again cash them for the customers. I read today in the local paper, the people that turned in their coupons for reward credits will get to keep the extra reward credits and they will get the $525.

I still think it's all an elaborate promotional gimmick, something
casinos are good at. A lot of people won't find out in time or won't
bother to take the trip to cash the coupon, those that do - well,
giving cash to a gambler in a casino is like giving cash to a meth
junkie or letting your pre-teen son spend the night at neverneverland
ranch, do you really need Jerry Springer to tell you what's likely to
happen? A $525 cash offer is peanuts for bounceback. Notice the big
impact on Harrah's stock? Now if it includes airfare and rfb it might
be worthwhile, problem is nothing is playable. If you want to know
what a mistake looks like, it's more like this:
http://www.bjinsider.com/newsletter_42_million.shtml
"The Imperial Palace in Biloxi was a busy place on Father's Day June
15th. The casino had widely publicized a promotion available for that
Sunday. Blackjacks would be paid at 2:1 instead of the normal 3:2 odds
for 24 hours starting at 12:01 AM Sunday. The promotion applied to all
6-deck tables of blackjack in the casino, and the promotion was good
up to the normal table limits."
Or this:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2003/Dec-25-Thu-2003/business/22871776.html
" Video footage Nersesian obtained from the El Cortez shows Cagno hole
carding -- meaning he was able to see the blackjack dealer's hole card
because of the dealer's mistakes -- in October 2002. He is approached
by two security officers who ask him to stop playing. The tapes show
Cagno getting up and walking toward an exit."

Where can I get some of those offers? I've gotten bounceback offers for as little as $3 -- now that's peanuts!

"This bounce-back cash war is not limited to Las Vegas. Internet
bulletin boards and e-mail lists are filled with happy reports from
players all over. Those who can visit a casino during the week are
picking up big cash as Atlantic City tries to overcome the "weekend
destination" syndrome. Many Mississippi casinos are giving earned
cashback and bounce-back cash. One riverboat in the Chicago area sends
its high-roller players $200—$500 every week as long as they continue
to play heavily and regularly. However there are many players, even
those playing no higher than quarters, getting frequent smaller
bounce-back checks every week from riverboats all over the Midwest."

It looks like at least the State of Illinois will
benefit:

Of course, when it comes to gaming, the State of

If this happened in California you could never find
anyone who would even answer your complaint. In
Nevada the gaming board would call it an obvious error
and forgive the casino.
Good for Illinois!

If you are a quarter player it is a lot of BB. Maybe my mind isn't devious
enough, but I think this was probably a mistake. This casino has adjusted
their business to avoid Illinois' unique casino taxes before. Heck they
still charge entry if you just walk in, but I don't know if handing out
millions to low level customers would help their tax position.

ROFL!

Hey, iggy ... you know I truly respect you ... so please slowly repeat
after me:

"H-a-r-r-a-h-s J-o-l-i-e-t"

An intentional bounty/"promotional gimmick" (up from a typical 25
bucks) to get them back in the door? I don't recall hearing of Joliet
being noted for its largesse (promotional or otherwise). Maybe I
should follow the Midwest vpFREE group more closely.

Let me know which Harrah's property you play so that I can consider it
for my next "D.I.A.D." jaunt

Harrah's Joliet is one of my local casinos. Believe me they are not overly generous. Also someone else on this board listed several different Harrahs property and the diamond in a day play requirements. Joliet was 4000 points. Not the place to do diamond in a day. Believe me the $525 coupon was a mistake.

it used to be the high rollers got the big offers, but lately the
"strategy-du-jour" is the inverse, throw the big offers at the low
rollers and ignite a feeding frenzy, kinda like walmart on the morning
of the 25th, speaking of which i heard some Macy's were giving out
free high value debit cards to the first morning customers/(shark bait)

Do you play at Harrahs in Joliet...................I am not close to being a high roller, and I and others that aren't high rollers do not get great incentives to come in. Just the usual $5 coupons.

so, does that suggest a strategy modification?
always play the min to generate the coupon?
or pay your cousin vinny the scuffer to put play on your card?

As I recall, Uncle Buck lives just down the street from me. And if the
beater he drives can make it out to the Northshore, it could certainly make
it out to Joliet... Yep, next year that $525 is mine;-)
