Southcoast offer

I have received an RFB offer for 2 nights at the new Southcoast and am interested in trying it
out as I could combine it with a similar offer from the Palms or the MGM. When I travel to LV I
am usually a regular at Caesar's however their offers have been far and few between of late
and seemingly stingy since Harrah's took over.

I know the Southcoast is a way down the strip, however I haven't found many comments
about it and just wondered what are the general impressions about it.

Would love to hear any comments, thanks!

I ate dinner in their Italian restaurant last night, and it was a positive experience and a great value. The room is very pretty, and the service was attentive. The breads were wonderful, as was my husband's minestrone soup. I had a nice salad, and we both had the lasagna, which was ok. I also had a nice glass of wine. We had a coupon for $5 off each entree, and our total bill wound up at around $20. We thought this was a great value, and we'd go back -- we'd just try different entrees.

We had breakfast in the buffet a few weeks ago, and it was fine -- nothing to write about that was particularly positive or negative, although the service was somewhat lacking.

Southcoast is the casino closest to our home. We were really looking forward to it, hoping it would have the 10/7 DB that Orleans has. We visited the second week it was open. First Impression: who puts fruit on the doorhandles of a casino? It is South Coast, it has a Southern California theme (if you can find it), but fruit? Alligators, maybe, Terrible Herbst's Logo, maybe, but not fruit). Through the door, waiting for the ambiance to hit me.
Nothng. Vast room, lots of machines. Nothing full pay. Best game triple play 9/6 .25 JB.

Go to slot club. We registered on line and were told we would get card, tee shirt, free dinner coupons when we went to pick up the card. We waited in line - were told there would be a place so we would not have to wait in line, it was not to be seen. We were handed our cards, put in our pin numbers. She wished us a nice day. I asked for the tee shirt. She went to get them....all large, no choice. She smiled. I asked for our free dinner passes. She took them off a stack in front of her, handed them to us and smiled, then - like a light bulb went off - she also handed us a fun book. I smiled. We left the place.

We received coupons in the mail as Coast card holders for previous play at other casinos. It included $20 free play for each of us. We went yesterday to redeem the play. Put our cards in the slot at the triple plays. It showed our current Coast Club point count. Then, nothing. We put on our change lights and I went in search of a slot attendent. Found none. I saw a guy in a blue shirt. I asked if he was a floor person or a dealer. He didn't answer the question, but asked if he could help. I asked how I redeemed my $20 play. He said to go to the slot club. I said I had been there the line was very long and I had already done that. He said that he had just been there, there was no line and - I quote - "Sweetheart, you just have to stand in line like everyone else". He was a dealer. I headed to the slot club....the line was long. I went back to the machine and hubby was talking to a floor manager. He said he would put in new pin numbers for us. He did that, then he announced that he was told the sysem was down. He gave us another two free dinners at the buffet. I told him to please keep dealers from giving advice to slot players. We left. We are debating whether we want to return. $40 free play may be worth it.

Comments I have heard from others: It has no charisma, totally lacking in character. One person went to free breakfast buffet and said it was so bad he was about to ask for his money back. The handicapped parking is too far away from the doors.

Maybe it will find its niche, maybe when they "change machines in a couple of months" (from the floor person) it will improve.
  We can only hope.
  Cheers!

I can only amplfy the comments about the lines for slot cards and
free tee shirts. As a Boyd stockholder I would increased the staff to
fit the first of all my loyal players in one line with waitresses
handing out soft drinks and champagne, then another equally well
staffed set of people welcoming the new players. This scenario is
the exact opposite of what happened. Boyd missed an opportunity,
because as they say you only get one chance to make a good first
impression. This was no Borgata opening.

Getting to Southcoast from the strip was easy, just take Las Vegas
Blvd south until it squeezes down to two lanes. I kid you not.
Planning was not a word used around this Casino. Also there is no
direct access from I-15.

The casino is large but boxy, IGT fanagled a deal so that they would
be the only platform in the casino. Mr. Cashman and other favorites
were left out by this deal. My wife and I enjoyed our lunch buffet,
but the Gold Coast Buffet has better decor and ambiance. But for a
much better experience, put 50 points on you Wynn card and enjoy a
feast of a buffet at Wynn

Best Regards
Obids

I was planning to use the two day offer with food and beverage included that I received in the mail. I am glad that I decided not to use it on my last trip. I did not even visit the casino since there is no good video poker. It sounds like I did not miss out on anything.

Interesting you mentioned having problems with the Coast Club
system. Isn't this the same Bally Gaming system Bob Dancer had
problems with in another casino (Bally's I think)?

I found the information below, about the SouthCoast system on a
finance site.

Take a deep breath and relax. There is a button in the upper right
corner of the screen labeled "redeem offers" or something similar. You
press the button and your current free play offer is displayed. Enter
your pin number and the credits are downloaded.

I had the opposite experience of the previous poster. I found the
casino clean, classy and enjoyed the flat panels on every machine. The
nightclub/lounge should open in March and the upstairs ballroom could
make this the best place to dance in the city.

I was particularly impressed with the quality of the patrons. The lack
of smokers is a pleasing juxtaposition to the lower tier casinos and
clientele they attract.

Hi Bonnie;
Hey, the only alligators in S. Cal are on those polo shirts. And in the zoos, of course. There are a lot of lizards there, but they either are about 5-6 inches long and hang out in your back yard or are about 5-6 feet long and hang out in the bars. Actually fruit is a lot more Southern California-ish, and it would probably be hard to represent a busy freeway or smog on a door handle.

Skip,

Yeah, I just knew someone would be defending fruit on the door handle :)! Actually I was referring to the Orleans and those great alligator door handles. How about a surfboard for a door handle?
A mud slide? No fruit.

I find that unusual I must it was clean and the players were the type I would want to sit next to me…
