A few years ago, Sam's Town removed all FPDW because they said they were losing $5/hour on each machine.
Today Sam's Town has FPDW, but with slower machines and reduced points that $5 is probably less now, but let's use it.
South Point might actually lose $100 per day per machine. The marketing value would easily exceed that just like any other promotion or cash back.
I have never set foot in SP, but yesterday I recommended it as a new home for a former Barbary Coast fan. No flea alert, these folks play deuces and everything else. They love Michael's and pay cash. They'll be there this weekend. With FPDW gone from Silverton, I'll be giving SP a try myself in the spring if nothing changes. So the reason to have FPDW is the same reason you give 8x points or $20 cash back, it's get people into your casino. All but a small number will play other games, bring friends that are not interested in value play (my MIL), refer friends, spend cash in restaurants. Full pay games are just part of the mix for casinos in the competitive Las Vegas market. FPDW tells me South Point wants my business.
