I cant help but think that the proliferation of Bob Dancer VP seminars

along

with "Frugal" media has produced an army of these advantage-player
wanna-be's.

So....is that good or bad?

Is this another judgment of how anyone (especially the Newbies) should
conduct themselves at a casino?

Although I have always tried to keep a low profile, this is the great US of A
where society has room for all profiles. As I have stated many times, this
VP bandwagon is very much akin to the "Beat the Dealer" explosion of counter
wannabe's. I have seen many a strategy card right out in plain view at a
blackjack table; I now see many a VP strategy card or 8 x 11 paper propped in front
of a player.

Even the "big players" can't seem to stop the chatter of whats where, the %
edge, and the like right out in public in hearing distance of management. We
are a chain of a variety of VP players and as they say, the weakest link will
be our downfall. This website, itself, must have some lurkers who are
evaluating just how proficient and organized we are.

Food for thought!

I have attended a couple of Bob Dancer's classes.
When this question came up, he pointed out that
Fiestas PAID HIM to conduct the classes and provided
merchandise for him to raffle off. Methinks there is a
little too much paranoia amongst this group:-)

First off, a rant: There are some legit issues - such as hogging of
good machines and people standing around waiting.... I've seen this at
Laughlin Harrah's and the Wynn on multiple occasions... I think this
is a bad thing if people aren't behaving their best to accept the
situation even when they may "only have that one afternoon to play" -
if your entire strategy is to give the casino as little money as
possible and be the cheapest player in the place. If a person can't
have some fun playing 98% payback once in a while then maybe that
person had some other issues.

More direct to your point.

I think some people are overlooking the husband/wife situation where
the husband is playing 99.5% JoB and the wife is playing 96% .25 Wheel
of Fortune. Not too uncommon where one or the other is more focused
on bottom line while one just wants to have fun. I think over time
the casino has learned they need to keep the high-return rate person
happy to bring in the couple/friends/etc.

I also think people are overlooking that even some educated VP players
don't properly bankroll for a session and walk way at a certain loss
cutoff. This is natual human behavior for many and I suggest why even
a 100% payback machine can make money over time for a casino - as the
machine is perfect - the human playing is not.

Mistakes - people make mistakes. Even on a positive play machine how
many people really have the skill/talent to have almost zero errors?
The casino knows this number - again a reason I suggest why even 100%
payback machines can make money over time for a casino. Add in the
constant smoke, noise, distraction from other players, drinks, etc.
Sure, some people can deal with all that - but I suspect many more do not.

I can't tell you how much money my husband and I have made for casinos by bringing them in reel slot and short-pay players. When our friends only partly follow our advice and lose big, I ask them about their choice in games. They always say something like, "but you told me that I could do well playing here." Sadly, my friends conveniently forget that my advice is couched in terms of specific games (which we've had them practice before their trip) with specific bankrolls.
