Sorry it took me so long to find the group

I know a few of you from previous newsgroups and in personal
meetings.

If I'm lucky I get to play once a month.

I play just about anything I can (AA, 9/6, DW, and Pick em) I really
enjoy 9/6 triple play (only in $1 at the Ameristar).

I'm still a low roller (Harrah's Gold) but I enjoy playing at all of
the casinos.

I have the worst of luck on getting the SF's and RF's but I tend to
get way more quads than normal.

I only got to play in 60+ US casinos last year so I hope to meet
that or exceed that mark this year.

I hope I get to meet up with you guys at the next "function"

Ron.

There hasn't been a function yet but sounds like a good idea. Lucky Lucy and I are retired so can attend just about anytime. Any ideas?

On a different note, we just returned from a 6-week, 5,000 mile adventure in our motorhome. Got away from a lot of the nasty Midwest weather. We hit casinos all along the way starting in Tunica. We also hit Biloxi and the Delta Downs in western Louisiana. A few Indian casinos in AZ and NM (but nothing in Texas -- dang!) Right off the bat in Tunica I hit a royal flush then a few days later in Biloxi Lucky Lucy hit another. That pretty much paid for our trip -- this is the way it is supposed to work.

But it is good to be back at home base and familiar casinos.

Every All American machine in Ameristar has been downgraded and
shortpays only 150 for 4OAK.

They have upgraded the 25 cent bartop machines -- the ones with the
NSUDs -- to 9/6 JOB. These are 5 play in one of the bars downstairs.
The NSUDs are still there as well.

Rick

The AA was downgraded a couple of months ago, but
thanks for the update on the other machines.

When the AA was full pay, I had a hard time getting a
seat at one. The last 4 or 5 times I've visited the
Ameristar, there have ALWAYS been available machines.
To me, that's a sign the KC area has quite a few
educated AA players. Too bad Ameristar and Argosy
don't want their business. It doesn't really make
sense in Ameristar's case, since they offer JOB 9/6
and NSUD--a little bit lower payout, but MUCH easier
to learn!

We usually split our time between Ameristar and Harrah's. I like the selection of machines better in Harrah's but lately they have been really screwing us on Bonus points. I have notice a certain woman who always plays $1 AA in Harrah's, she is there almost every time we go. She has racked up some pretty impressive scores but, of course, we don't know how much she looses. Looks like she knows what she is doing.

For the past several visits to Harrah's we have really came out on the short end of the stick on Bonus points -- something like 1 bonus for every 50 base points. Yesterday I got about 1 for 2 base points but Lucky Lucy got nothing for her play. At that rate we rack up about two or three dollars per hour play. The same play at Ameristar gets us eight or ten dollars per hour. We have complained to everyone who will listen but they mostly just blow us off. Truth is none of them have a clue.

We really like the "banking" of points for comps at Harrah's. We have used them for meals at other Harrah's and Rio casinos. But Ameristar is so much more generous with comps and cash back. We have been getting more comps than we can use. One day, just to use them up, we bought about $50 worth of Arthur Bryants BBQ meat and took it home to the freezer.

We want to maintain our Diamond status at Harrah's, at least for one of us. The Diamond lounges at other properties are really handy when we are traveling. And BTW all the others we visited stay open all day. But I think most of our serious play is going to be at Ameristar, especially since we discovered the 5-play JOB machines.

If she knows what she's doing it's doubtful she's losing over the

This is EXACTLY the same M.O. that Bill Keena (the new KC GM, and
current STL GM) used here in STL. First he cut the Bonus RC's.
Players complained, then he just yanked the AA completely.

If you wish to maintain Diam status, my suggestion is you put ALL
your action in at Harrahs NOW. I'd set the over/under on All American
staying at Harrahs at 90 days.

Thanks for the advice, this is not good news. On the brighter side, we discovered more full pay 25 cent machines at Ameristar. The same bartop machines mentioned in an earlier post also have 8/5 Bonus games (in 5-play only, the 3-pay version is 7/5). To the best of my knowledge these are the only 8/5 Bonus machines in the Kansas City area.

My wife and I spent a couple hours on these games yesterday, had a great time -- she hit 4 Aces 3 times and I hit them twice. Also got $85 in food comps! The same play at Harrah's would have produced about $10 at the rate we have been getting points. :frowning:

Might not be a bad idea to write a "welcome" letter to the new
general manager at KC, telling him how much we love our Harrah's and
we hope that he keeps it the same. I'd be willing to bet that, if
he received complaints to the effect of "if you dump AA, I'm
outahere", you will be practically waving a red flag in front of a
bull. If he does take out AA, I wouldn't suggest complaint letters
or emails specifying AA because it's full-pay. You'd probably want
to say something to the effect that "I like it because it's more
exciting than slots, etc."
Don't play it myself, just a 9-6 JoB player. But I am concerned
that, once downgrades start in a casino, they eventually get rid of
even that, and you end up with what Coast Casinos did in LV, and
what Argosy did in KC.
BTW, is anyone else boycotting Argosy? Perhaps they should receive
some letters urging them to bring back decent VP. The more
competition in town, the better we do. Okay, I'll shut up now.

Guess these things swing with the tide. At one time Harrah's had no full pay machines anywhere on the premises. But the downgrade may have started. The bank of 7/5 Bonus progressives have been replaced with new machines -- which was sorely needed -- and the game downgreaded to 6/5. These are the slant tops near the AA machines along the wall (second floor). I don't consider this a big loss but did play them once in a while when the progressive was really ripe. However it may be indication of a trend.

A couple days ago we were in Harrah's and saw the same young woman playing the $ AA's. Lucky Lucy has observed her in the past and says she stokes the machine with $500 to start. She had over 1200 credits when I saw her but, unfortunately, her husband also stoked a machine with $500 and had busted out. LL also observed she does not play AA strategy but uses the standard old JOB play. Guess it works for her.

Yesterday we hit Ameristar again and played the 5-play 25 cent 8/5 Bonus machines in the bartop. They were not kind and we went away with our tails between our legs. Some days its chicken and some days its feathers. However, we did get $75 in food comps and had an excellent meal at Bugettas Little Italy Cafe.

I'm not exactly "boycotting" Argosy, but I used to
play at the old location almost every Saturday morning
and now I only go once every couple of weeks, just to
check out the pay scales. They sent me cash coupons
in Jan and Feb and I cashed some of them in without
playing.

I've received no coupons for March and almost nothing
at all for April--no coupons, no Argosy Newsletter,
only a postcard advertising the piggy bank giveaway on
April 15th.

When they first opened, I submitted a suggestion card,
saying the "VP pay scales are disappointing", and
asking that AA be put on the Bally Multi-Game
machines. They put AA on, but with shorted pay scale
(98%.5%). I take that to mean they are very aware
their VP is not competitive with the other 3 KC
casinos, and they aren't bothered by that. Oh well,
I'm not bothered by the fact that I don't give them
any of my business anymore.

Be sure to say "Hi" and offer to get her a soft drink

It's players like this that will keep the hold on these machines
higher because they play with bad strategy. If enough people play it
poorly, the AA machines may last longer.

We haven't been back since the opening weekend. One look at the VP pay scales and we are 'outa there'. So who do you contact to 'suggest' better VP machines?

If you're asking if I know the names of Argosy's KC
executives, I'm afraid I don't. My comments to them
were on one of those suggestion cards you find in
various places in the casino. There is at least one
suggestion box near the Casino Services area.
