SOME THINGS ARE ETERNAL

Dear PYCONNER--

You are putting words in my mouth. I never said Atkins DIED of diabetes and
obesity. I never even mentioned diabetes--only the obesity and heart-disease
appearing on his post-mortem.

But you are correct that he died by falling on his head. Of course, one could
argue that he fell on his head years ago--but why quibble?

I'm also familiar with the Harvard and other research about the health
problems of a diet composed of refined carbohydrates and fat. That's why I'm a
veggie. I never even implied that raw carrots (of which I'm particularly fond)
are related to diabetes and obesity--only that a vegetarian doesn't have to
worry about a "mad Carrot disease" analogous to "Mad Cow" disease.

Geez, Louise, I never realized that some--by no means all--of you carnivores
were so touchy about diet. I never should have innocently mentioned I ordered
the free El Cortez breakfast without the bacon, because I'm vegetarian.
Should my Jewish friends be similiarly apologetic about keeping Kosher?

Dear Rick--
Apparently you are blissfully ignorant that there was no "autopsy" on Dr.
Atkins, who was reasonably fit before he fell on his head and went into a coma.
You may also be ignorant of the fact that medical research at Harvard and
other places shows that consumption of refined carbohydrates--not raw carrots-- is
connected with obesity and diabetes.

  Dear "Bat"

Apparently, you are blissfully ignorant of the last 25 years' medical and
nutritional research--as well as more recent news. I.e., Dr. Atkins'
autopsy
results showing obesity and advanced heart disease. And I challenge you to
document one, single case of Mad Carrot disease!

Sorry if this comes across as intemperate--but you're one of the few
carnivores I've come across who appears contemptuous of vegetarianism!

  Rick
Rick, hate to tell you this but being "veggie" still isn't cool.
