No, I'm not faulting the Sorokin formula at all. The difference is that my own Optimum Video Poker (soon to be released) takes the data directly from the game analysis for the Sorokin calculation. These data have 15 significant digits internally, and the procedure that evaluates the Sorokin formula is tested to converge to 12 digits accuracy, so it is more accurate than if you have to take the displayed results from some game analysis and feed them into another program (or an Excel spreadsheet) to calculate the Sorokin number.
And by "perfect play" I mean that every dealt hand is played for the absolute greatest EV. Such accuracy is humanly impossible for most of the attractive games and is easy only for Double Down Stud. The more complex a strategy (as for Double Bonus or All American), the more errors a human player is likely to make, and the more the Risk of Ruin will increase above the Sorokin number.

Dan, are you saying that Sorokin's equation itself isn't completely
accurate, because the RoR with perfect play is a bit higher than
indicated by those numbers? I assume that by 'perfect play' you mean
mathematically perfect application of the strategy resulting from the
Sorokin number which is appropriate for max-ev.Dan Paymar wrote:

low. In other words, the risk of ruin with perfect play is a bit
higher than these numbers would indicate. Errors in human play,
however, probably increase the risk more than these small errors,
especially for Double Bonus and All American.
