Some GOOD news about the new Palms system...

Perhaps not a point limit, but a multiplier limit. Like a max of 2X on all
VP, or maybe 2X on the machines in the 99.5% to 99.7% range. The higher
multipliers could apply only to "bad" VP and slots.

This could get complicated, with lots of stickers on lots of machines. But
there must be some limits unless all VP over 99% (or even lower) is only
eligible for single points. And even that would be complicated! And to make
it even worse, as others have pointed out, machines with several games
would be limited by the best game on that machine. Like if a machine has 9/6
JOB, it might be restricted to only 2X points, even though 9/6 DDB is also on
that same machine.

The bottom line is, the game EV plus the value of the multiplied points
cannot exceed 100% by much, or it won't last long. I think 100.1% total might
be okay, but not much more at the higher denominations. A higher total EV
might be acceptable at lower denoms. At quarter single line, up to 101%
might be acceptable for the promo duration. I mean they've had that on the FPDW
progressive forever!

One other possibility is that the card swipes would not be random. If the
computer selects a multiplier based on the player's average theo, that
could solve most of the problems--if the average theo is high, you can get a
high multiplier, if it's low, you get a low one or don't get one at all. I
don't know if card swipes like this are regulated by Gaming Control. Does
anyone know if a bias can be built into this kind of promo legally?

It doesn't have to be that way. They could put a point limit on

Not really. The player advantage would still be 1.2% with a 6X multiplier
on NSUD. Even if they set a small limit like 50K base points, the player
advantage would still be $600. Besides they have already put marketing
money into signs and advertising that there will be no point limit on
multipliers.

Hi Brian,

Your first idea is interesting, unfortunately while the latest version of Oasis (which I think they have, although I'm not positive) allows them to see which game we play in a multi-game machine, it does not let them set parameters like a max of 2X on either the machine or the game. When someone makes it $2 / point they don't really set that but play with the denomination the system thinks the machine is playing.

Your second idea has been done by at least 1 casino I know of but they admitted they didn't know if Gaming would approve or not. I don't think it's ever been proposed or had a ruling (although my last experience with this was about 5 years ago).

Unfortunately, most gaming executives are not creative enough to do these types of things and haven't even pushed the software vendors to put in this kind of flexibility.

For what it's worth, I wonder who had the brilliant thought to eliminate caps on point multipliers. They only affect the highest-end players and the pros. Probably some outside consulting firm....
