My partner and I have been playing/staying at

My partner and I have been staying at Sam's Town for about 12
years.
The employees,staff had always been very nice to us. We used
the standard 3-5 nts offer and they always picked up all of our
room charges. I recall we once invited 5 friends to dinner at
Papa Mios and I jokingly asked for a comp for all of us: it was
no problem!!
How things have changed. We arrived last Feb. very late in the
evening. We had a coupon for dinner at Billy Bobs that you were
supposed to show upon checking in-we forgot. I explained we flew
from Boston,were tired and simply forgot-sorry!! We found the
rooms are getting tired, and we had to fight for 2 comped buffets!!
We certainly did not feel welcome. Has anyone else noticed this
behavior?
We are leaving for LV on Tuesday Feb 1st and will be staying for
three comped nts at Sunset and 2 at Hilton. We miss the old days
at Sam's!!

I'm afraid I have to agree with you, the comps for VP players have become awfully tough to get. I find myself only going to Sams Town once per year, just to keep it on
my radar. It used to be my number 1 by a bunch, always had a minimum of a Silver card, sometimes Gold. Now I'm lucky to get some food coupons, all for the same level of play.

I have some insights on this question that might be answered better on a 1 to 1 chat but for what it's worth this is what I know.

A few years ago they changed their generous comp policy to a simple mathematical one. The vakue is 16 cents/$100 for comps or 10cents/$100 for cash. They increased Silver Card to 10000/day and gold to 20000/day. A host informed me as well that they have a formula they use based on the hold on the machines you actually play to determine the discretionary stuff. I always get the same offer each month, 2 free nights (sun-thurs) and $25 food. Apparently you play at a higher level. Their easy access to CAT, UNLV, and good 25 cent inventory is a plus for me. Their lack of smoke free play causing most of my play to be graveyard is a big minus as is their new housekeeping policy of needing your room cleaned by 1PM. The reduced point requirement for buffets is a plus for my level.

My experience at Sam's Town is that they have placed a low
theoretical on any thing that is full pay. Playing FPDW or Double
Bonus will get you minimal comps and since the FPDW is only
available in quarters it is impossible to have a large coin-in even
if you play all day and night.

Thus, if you have a winning trip, you can forget any discretionary
comps unless you have a very large coin-in. If you have a losing
trip, then they are much more willing to give discretionary comps.
