I use the following rule of thumb when checking progressives for
positive play: Take the full pay version ev subtract 1% for each full
house and flush shortage add 1% for each $2,000 increase in
progressive (since royal approx 2% of ev) hence in your Vons case:
99(9-6 ddb) -2( 9 v 7 fullhouse) -1(9 v 6 flush) +2 (+$4,000
progressive) = 98...no computer needed!

Loved your post on estimating progressives. I've used a similar system, but yours is better. I play only progressives on Illinois Deuces ( over $1500), mostly on 9/6 JOB and NSUD. I believe that we're going to have to look for them even more in the future since the non-progressive positive plays are being downgraded. BTW there's a typo for the flush in your post; you meant (6 v 5 flush). Happy Holidays, Linda
