He then went on to say that smoking is allowed in the area and I

Without going to a smoking debate with the manager, you could have said " Yes, smoking is allowed at your casino and as far as I know, so are fans. I don't see any 'no fans allowed' signs, so what is the problem?"
I think the young manager would have walked away at that point.
