Slow Play

I previously mentioned how a host at the Tropicana Express had
stated that length of play was a factor in determining both your
card level and comps. As difficult as it is, I tested "slow play"
with some limited success at the Tropicana.

I think I also mentioned that the Barona Casino in the San Diego
area states on its web site that length of play as one of the
factors in their comp system. It is easier to understand this at
that casino since "all" machines are set to automatic play and it
is a feature that cannot be turned off. It is a very fast method
of playing and it substantially increases the dollars in for
everyone. It was also mention that the accuracy of the automatic
hold varies from machine to machine. Basically the newer machines
are more accurate the older up right machines.

I recently stayed one night at the Barona Casino (Feb 11th).
I booked the night at a rate of $160. I usually get free nights,
but, to my surprise, VIP registration said I had no free rooms
at that time. I agreed to put the room on my credit card, but
totally believe this would be corrected on my visit. After some
play, I asked to see a host on duty. I mentioned that I was
surprised that my room was not "comped" based upon previous
status and xpectations. Since I had already played that day,
I asked to have the room now comped before checking in at
registration. She was very friendly and courteous and seemed to
be interested in solving my room roblem. She looked at my play
for that day and said she would see what she could do and just
needed to make a quick call. She proceeded to pick up the phone
and seemed to ask for permission to "comped" the room. This call
was made right in front of me and what was interesting is that
the only information given to the other party was how long I had
played that day. There was no mention of my name, account number,
games played or denominations. She just told the other person
how long I had played that day. This certainly seemed to indicate
that length of play was really a significant factor!

Again, it is very difficult, but not impossible, to slow play
their VP machines. Even with making the necessary corrections
and even if you record the results of every hand play is still
quick. However, it seems as though it is significantly to your
advantage to try to play slow. Maybe playing with a friend and
doing a lot of talking would help. I find almost everyone
playing very fast and saw very few making any corrections on
their machines. They also have slow play on "MultiStrike" video
poker machines. I tested this a little and noticed it too made
mistakes, but generally plays each level correctly.

I just thought I would pass on this observation. I think in the
future all of my play is going to "slow down". I will make an
effort to play slower and BETTER. An exception would be if I am
at a machine with a significant positive advantage, or I have a
reason to get a certain amount of coin in in a limited amount of
time. Anyway, maybe "slow play" is something to consider at least
at the Tropican Express!
