There are 2 customary ways of accumulating points.....
1. Coin- in ---- Every dollar wagered earns a point or partial point. All casinos have different formulas for this, but if you put $1 in a machine and play it 100 times you will earn 100 points or partial points depending on the formula used.
2. Coin-out--- Every dollar won earns a point or partial point. The difference between the 2 methods is minor in the average result.
The method that you mention was used in the past at the Rio. Once upon a time you earned points whenever you bought coins not when you played them.
If such a method were used today , the smart player would put his money through the machine once, then cash out and put more bills into the machine.
Not a productive use of time for casino or player.
There are many different formulas for points .
Some casinos are 1 dollar creates one point, some are 10 dollars a point, some are 3 points per dollar. Until you know what a point is worth, it doesn't matter. Some places don't even tell you. It can be very confusing.
The vpFREE database can be very helpful for finding out.

Subject: [vpFREE] Slot Club Rules
Joined my first one today. Stated rules are that it pays ".2%"
cashback, but ONLY of the amount of currency I put in thru the bill
acceptor.
IE, I put in $25, made "quite a few" video-poker bets of $1.25 each,
and wound up losing the entire $25.
Checked number of "points" i'd accrued, and was told only 25.
I was under impression that the .2% should have been calculated on
the total amount wagered. ie, if individual bets added up to $100, I
should have gotten 100 points. Unless this is situation, is totally
unrealistic to add cashback percentage to game expectancy.
Can someone please advise "what's customary".
