Like everything else in casinos, collecting slot cards is a gamble.
As pointed out earlier, you may miss out on some future new customer
promotion if you sign up now, however, you also may miss out on some
good offers if you don't sign up now. For those of us not living in
Las Vegas and only going there a time or two a year, our opportunities
for taking advantage of new customer promotions are pretty limited.
My advice for 1st Timers is still to sign up for a slot card in each
and every casino they visit. I believe the odds of getting offers in
the mail for future visits outweigh the possible missed opportunity
for a new customer promotion considering how few times they will visit
LV. However, if this is a major concern then only sign up with one
name and get two cards. If a good promotion comes along later and if
you are there when it shows up, then sign up the other person as a new
customer (again getting two cards).
This is what Lucky Lucy and I do most of the time. She was able to
take advantage of a new customer offer at Bay St Louis, MS, for a $70
spa treatment and a couple free buffets. The fact that I already had
a slot card did not matter at all. I played on her card and we soon
got the minimum points required to activate the offer.
Perhaps someone can enlighten us about valuable new customer
promotions in Las Vegas. The only ones I know about is Harrah's (and
who doesn't already have a Harrah's card) and the one at Stratosphere
(still available ???). The other new customer promotions I am
familiar with involved a deck of used cards or a key chain.
