I still subscribe to the vphomepage although I do not post to vpmail
because of Skip's aggressive censoring of opinion distasteful to
him. I checked this morning and found that 27 out of the top 40 had
material errors (such as games that no longer existed, slot club
policy misstatements, etc.). The fact of the matter is that he
doesn't work very hard at it; updates are only posted every week or
so, if that. When John Kelly ran the site, info was integrated into
the top 40 within hours of its posting.
Another shortcoming, which Skip is finally trying to address, albeit
in terse and cursory fashion, is that one player's criteria for "top-
40-ness" may not be the same as another's. Are you looking for good
room offers and comps? Are you a local looking for good mailings and
bouncebacks? Do you not care about the above, but simply want to
find the games with the best mathematical return?
The trouble now, is that the VP scene is in such a state of flux,
anyone who attempted to collate and maintain this info would have to
spend several hours a week doing it just to keep it current.
Otherwise the info would be of no value. Plus, any ranking system
has an element of subjectivity to it; ultimately one's FEELINGS
about a given casino influence one's decision to play there or
elsewhere, and may nudge a given casino upwards or downwards in the
rankings (for instance: in JK's T-40, the Hilton was always much too
high; the El Cortez much too low, and comparing the relative
experiences of staying one weekend in each place, it's not hard too
see why).
Ultimately, we have to rely on current info, and current postings,
plus the willingness of group members to answer specific questions,
for our knowledge. This doesn't mean that it wouldn't be a good idea
for someone to maintain some kind of info database. But the last
several people who tried, found it was so much work, that they
thought they should be paid for it.....

I agree with your assessment of vpmail. I am a former subscriber and have a
question for you. Why do you continue to subscribe? I understand that
those who have a vested interest in selling information that is readily
available for free in many other venues would support Skip (birds of a
feather). On the other hand, I don't know why someone who shares your views
would continue to subscribe. I have not found another site (free or pay)
that provides the quantity and quality of video poker information as vpFREE.
