I doubt that you're far off target, friend Harry.
We were in Singapore about 5 years ago. At that time some poor
benighted American parents were trying (unsucessfully) to get their
college aged kids out of prison. The American Embassy was trying to
help them, but meeting the same stone wall. The offense that they
had committed, while stupid anywhere, and moronic in Singapore, was
nothing more than being involved in a minor barroom brawl (no
one was injured) after ingesting one too many Singapore Slings.
During that same week, we noticed a bunch of local citizens, loosely
tied to each other with a rope around the ankle, picking up debris in
a park. Police were overseeing their efforts. When we inquired from
another citizen as to whether they were a clean-up detail from jail,
we were informed that they were just regular citizens who had been
caught littering, and this was standard punishment for that offense.
I guess that, in a country where it was a jailable offense to drop
chewing gum on the street, that being led out the back door of a
casino to face a possibly painful fate for counting cards (or
playing advantage vp?)is concievable.
Anyway, I think I'll take a pass on playing in the casinos of
Singapore, even if they have 10/6DDB.
