Silver Legacy & El Dorado

I'm going to Reno next weekend (June 25-27). Several of my friends
wanted to be there for gambling & the "Brews & Blues" festival. I
spoke with Silver Legacy host "Andy" & got the best consideration
I've ever gotten there: one room comped for Fri/Sat nights, & the
room for my friends at casino rate.

I plan to play mostly the quarter Deuces, & as necessary "bulk up" my
comps with nickel 50-play JOB. I'd appreciate any knowledge folks can
share on the SL & El Dorado comp systems.

For the SL, I'm wondering if I should charge all meals to the room &
see my host at the end (I'll likely play ~$10K/day)? Or better to get
meal comps from the booth? Also, in the past I've usually gone to the
buffet or coffee shop; any culinary recommendations would be
appreciated too.

At the ElD, I played one day within the past year, which I believe
has got me Gold status. I must have $30 or $40 in comps that I might
want to use at the brewery. I'm wondering if using those comps
without playing there will ruin my status? If I decide to play at El
D for a day, does anyone know what hours their "day" runs? In the
past, I've played their nice slant-tops near the brewery, JOB, NSUD,
or DB, as well as the BlackJack machine if I can get it by myself.

Thanks for any info.

Hey Random Stu -

First off, don't sweat about "ruining" your status at El D. You aren't a regular, so just
grab a promo slip for the Brewery (if that's how they give it to you).

It seems to me you're getting caught up in the comp game. Just watch yourself -
losing $300 to get $30 in comps is a fool's game. Maybe you enjoy showing off for
your buds, but YOU gotta handle your bankroll situation - I mean what's IN your
wallet.

Same with Silver. If you enjoy that 50-play nickels at $12.50 a pull and you do well
on it, great. But definitely don't concentrate on your points to save $20 here and
there. You can really play those .25 FPDW progs fast, as you know, so just play YOUR
games within YOUR bankroll and don't get caught up in the comps. Find a game you
are expert at the strategy and a machine you are comfortable sitting at. And BEAT it.
Winning $500 beats the hell outta scammin' $50 in comps from playing longer or
over your budget.

The Silver comp poicy is one of the few that is actually spelled out in the brochures
you get at the promo booth. Unless your host pre-authorizes you to charge to the
room, I wouldn't chance it - you could be disappointed. But definitely try to find your
Host in person while you are there and introduce yourself. Hosts are very
accomodating people, he'll help you out with questions. My favorite hosts are the
ones that taake one look at your coin-in and just say, "Mark - don't worry about
anything- you're covered."

It sounds like you play more vids than your pals, maybe you can get them to use your
spare slot cards (ask for spares) when they play - you can treat them to meals in
return and you might step up the ladder in your future comp offerings in return. I
don't think the casino staff care about this, but they can't officially condone it unless
it's a husband/wife sharing the card. The only hole in this logic is: what if a pal
using your card gets a hand-pay jackpot with your card in the machine? I dunno.

Sweetwater and Buffet will fill you up nicely. Ask for a line pass at the promo booth
when you get your slip if you dine during peak eating times - and don't be shy about
cutting the line - your time in line is time you're not gaming. Mostly families with kids
sit in lines - you gotta start acting like a VIP!

Did you ask Andy for a limo from the airport? Impress your mates if you're all flying in
on the same flight. You'll also be able to arrange a limo TO the airport on your own
via the bell desk, and it'll save you time waiting for the shuttle and money if you were
to take a cab. I never leave for the airport more than one hour before flight time.

I'm sure I'll think of more nuggets for you, I'll e-mail you any last minute notions.
Sounds like you're going to have a good old time, yer buddies also.

Thanks to everyone who gave me info before my Reno trip. Because of
advice emailed to me, I tried out the Chinese food at the Silver
Legacy coffee shop, & a late night seafood soup was great. The coffee
shop other (non-Chinese) food was adequate, & as was the buffet
(fine, but not up there with Atlantis). Oyster bar dishes were
excellent.

I didn't play at all at El Dorado. I thought I could get my friends
to sign up there for a $25 new player bonus, but the booth person
said there was nothing like that. I did use my past accummulated
comps for pizza & clam chowder at Brews Brothers, which was excellent.

It was a short 3 days (starting around midnight Thursday, through
lunchtime on Sunday). The SL FPDW progressives started around $1080 &
climbed to over $1200 as I relentlessly pursued it, only to have the
woman 2 chairs to my left hit it on Sat night. One of my friends hit
quad deuces, & another hit them twice, but nothing for me. I ended up
the weekend down not quite $600, mostly from those many hours of
fruitless deuces.

Otherwise, I played nickel JOB, usually between 25- and 35-play. No
Royals in many hours, though I did get dealt quads once, which is
close to $200. And though I rarely play dollars, by Sunday morning I
still had bankroll left, & the Double Bonus progressives were awfully
attractive, so I took a shot. I was down over $200, fought back to
down $100 with some flushes & a boat, & then hit quad 7s for a $250
payoff. Now that I think of it, probably my first decent hit on a
dollar machine.

The FPDW & JOB were TITO, & there are machines (near mens room in
FPDW area) to cash your tickets. This is wonderful for those of us
who sometimes like to avoid human interaction. The DB isn't TITO, so
when I hit the quads, 250 dollar tokens came spitting out, & I had to
wait for a refill (pretty quick), & it was a bit of a challenge to
carry it all to the cashier.

I don't have it exactly, but I think I did ~$35K during the trip
(which includes the slower play of my friends, who all played on my
account). It was enough to cover my room completely, dinner &
breakfast for 4 at the buffet, the coffee shop soup, & even one day
of my friends' room (with their 2nd night remaining at casino rate).
This was arranged by host Andy, whom I only spoke to on the phone,
but everyone in the VIP room was helpful in every way.

I'm not much into alcohol but all my friends seem to be, & as we
hammered the deuces, one of them introduced me to Bailey's Irish
Creme, which was wonderful. I ordered it on the rocks, & it's
just about the first alcohol I've actually enjoyed drinking.
