Showboat Atlantic City

Good morning all, We are going to AC next week on a Harrah's trip.
Just rec'd tickets and our rooms are at the Showboat. Can someone
please tell us alittle about it as we are not too familiar with AC nor
Showboat. Quality of rooms, safety of hotel, etc. I read that VP is
OK so looking forward to playing as here in Florida there is not any
good place to play. Looking forward to some cool weather too.
Had a trip to Reno Harrahs and even though we enjoyed ourselves, it is
too far with change of planes for us to do too often. An 11 hour
day!!! Also hit a royal there on 5 quarters and what a shock to
receive only $375 instead of $l000. My fault for not checking closer.
Appreciate any answers. Phylann

Good luck with your upcoming trip to A/C. The Showboat is a very nice property. The security at the facility is about typical; show key cards to access room elevators and plenty of guards (including plain clothes) walking the floor. The Italian restaurant there is AMAZING and not as expensive as one would expect; great food and wonderful service. Rooms are nicely sized and appointed. The boardwalk is safe and well patrolled; perfect for an evening walk. The only negative is that the Showboat is at the extreme end of the boardwalk so it's a hike to anywhere. While you are in A/C take the short cab ride out to the Borgata. It's a beautiful must see. Jenn and I live a couple of hours away and spend a couple of weekends a month playing VP in A/C. Hit a royal while you are here! Feel free to email us if there are any specific questions you would like addressed. Remember ..... life is only what you make it. Never settle for second best.Bill & Jenn

Both towers at the Showboat have been renovated so the rooms are
usually pretty nice. You've got to be careful in any casino
environment but it's relatively safe.

You can take the Total Rewards Shuttle Bus among the (4) Harrah's
properties in AC by showing your room key and check out Harrah's
Marina, Bally's and Caesar's. You can take a Jitney (little blue
independently owned shuttle buses for $2 a ride that pick up at all
the casinos -- hang on though!) to the Borgata to check it out and
to say that you rode a Jitney.

The SB has a ton of 9/6 Jacks in the non-smoking House of Blues
video poker section. It also has a bank of machines with 9/6 Jacks
from .25 to $5! in the smoking section.

I believe you can find 9/7 DB in the House of Blues too.

There's (8) Gamemakers with DBDJ but you may know that game has
extremely high variance.

The buffet is okay -- it used to be better. The steak house is good
though pricey. I have never eaten at the Italian Restaurant. I
don't care for the little sandwich shop (Canal Street or something)
but it's the only place to get food late at night. I do like the
Mansion Cafe a lot. (All the cafes in AC are pretty good though.)

Harrah's Marina has a ton of DBDJ machines. There are (5) quarter
9/6 JOB machines that are hard to get on. I think there are higher
denomination machines in the high limit area.

Bally's has quarter FP Pick'em in the Claridge (which is non-
smoking). Gold Tooth Gerties, the bagel shop, in the Wild Wild West
on the way to Caesar's has very good bagels and coffee for the
morning.

Caesar's has 9/6 Jacks but they are extremely tight with the C/B.
(Actually, there is no same day C/B in AC, only bounce back cash).

The weather has been vacillating between being unseasonably warm and
uneasonably cold, so hopefully you'll get something inbetween. If
you don't mind the cold, a boardwalk stroll is lovely in during this
time of year.

Good Luck and have a great time! - Catherine

I'd like to offer one correction to this reply. There is no one stationed at the evevators asking for room cards. We've been staying at Showboat for over 5 years and there has never been anyone standing there. Bally's does, but not Showboat or Harrahs. The Bourbon tower elevators do require that you put your room card in t he reaser to select your floor - this is a fairly new requirement.

Showboat is a nice place with good VP. We'venever had any security problems at any Atlantic City hotel.
