Don't drive. It is a long, boring drive, and since you have a limited time,
I would agree with others who suggest flying. Check for low fares on
Southwest and AmericaWest.
I live in Las Vegas but I used to go to Reno regularly in connection with my
work, I liked to stay at John Ascuaga's Nugget, which is actually in Sparks
but only a few miles from downtown Reno. They have excellent restaurants, my
favorite, and one of the best places in the state for steaks, is the
Steakhouse Grill. Really don't know how the VP stacks up against other
places since I didn't do much gambling in Reno.
I certainly would agree with the recommendation to see Lake Tahoe and take
the drive around it, (much nicer than the twice as long drive from Vegas to
Reno).
