Hi folks: This is a short trip report from my October trip.
This was a Downtowner trip, stayed at the Plaza (first time) and MSS (many times).
Preamble: Good flight (UA), cheap Car rental (dollar), no hassles or aggravation from either .
Plaza: Stayed here on an e-mail offer based ( I believe) on modest previous play of around 4k in one day. Got a room for 2 nights, $50 gift certificate to Center Stage restaurant, and a bathrobe.
After reading many stories of how bad the Plaza accommodations were, I was pleasantly surprised..
I found the room to be well above average in size, clean, good A/C ( cold and quiet), and the room was quiet also, with a nice view of the strip. Downside, the furniture was showing signs of wear, but then again so am I, so I am not too critical .
Dinner at the Center Stage was a great experience. I phoned for a reservation and asked when I should book to get a good view, booked for 6 the next day. The table we had was dead center on the window; the service was extremely good, from Maitre D', through the waiter and down to the busboy.
I found the food to be very good, and a great bargain for the price. Three of us ate for $75 including tax but not the tip ( 3 main courses, 3 appetiser salads, 3 desserts, 3 coffees), and the main courses were among the most expensive on the menu.
Ate at the coffee shop, it was average, tried the breakfast buffet, it was below average.
Played lots of video poker, they still have plenty of FP deuces, and I also like playing the old 4 and 5 joker poker games and the double double jackpot games as well. I won a $10 gas card when I hit 4 ducks ( a nice bonus) . Lost a few bucks overall at the Plaza, and I will go again if I get another good offer.
MSS - Alas the old gamemakers are gone and I spread my play around regular 10/7 db, NSUD , NSUJ ( Not so ugly jokers) , and some bonus deuces to break things up.
The buffet still has a great breakfast, the 777 still has great beer , not bad ribs, and very good strawberry shortcake. I also hit the Fremont buffet on seafood night and ravaged the lobster claws.
I earned a lot of scratch cards in more 4 days there, and sadly noticed that my average value has dropped below the $3 per card mark ( this may be an aberration, but I got an awful lot of $2 cards).
Well that is all the significant information for this trip.
Regards
A.P.
