One of the most beautiful aspects of VP, in my mind anyway, are the
relativly rare times the math reminds us how powerful the game can
be. Im refering specifically to short term/single session swings.
Those of us who have logged many lifetime hands know the session or
trip we hit 2 Royals and 4 sets of Aces gets cancelled out by that
session we lost the equivalent of 1 and half royals. Its a simple
numbers game; You play long enough and you'll experience all
varieties of winning and losing short terms. Yet someone such as
myself who's played over 15 million lifetime hands gets occasionally
awed by a breif anomaly. Case in point, yesterday I collected my
free play from Sams Town and headed down the Boulder strip to the
Fiesta Henderson to do the same. I came apon the ageless little
join ,"The Skyline". Since I had time to kill and craved a 99cent
shrimp cocktail, I pulled in and decided to give their 10-coin
quater FPDW a whirl. The machines are those old, almost exticnt IGT
coin clunkers and playd about 2000 hands( No slot card but I can get
in about 600 HPH). I hit a set of ducks early on and eventually hit
a second a set but something was annoying. Even though the machines
were slow, my Ben Franklins were getting eaten up faster than those
hot dogs at that eating contest! Apon leaving I realized I was only
ahead two hundred dollars, despite 4dueces twice. As evreyone here
knows without a Royal or Quad Ducks FPDW is about a 95% return game.
I wouldve lost $800 without the deuces in approx.2000 hands (+/- 100
hands). This means I ran 84% to the drop; the 1st time Ive ran that
horrible in a short FPDW session. Ive played alot of DB and FPJW and
70-80% two hour periods are not that unuasual. But this took me by
surprise for DW. I know the real short term can be vicious for high
variance games, but I dont consider FPDW that type of game. What are
some of the worst short trip/sessions you all have had!?
Short Term Nightmare
I had a session at Samstown on the quarter FPDW where I hit quad dueces twice in 2500 hands and was behind for the session.

That doesn't sound all that unusual. A few days ago, I lost $300 playing .50 NSUD in 1 1/2 hours -- and I'm a very slow player. Had 1 straight flush, one five-of-a-kind, and nothing higher than that. I've had many days like that, unfortunately!

My most unbelievable short-term result was was dropping two benjie's
at quarter FPDW in about 20 minutes. The first benjie quickly
dissapeared; not one full house or better, and very few
flush/straight/3oak hands. I shrugged my shoulders, fed the machine a
second benjie, and got the same result. For $200, I only got about
200 hands.
But I also remember my best single session, also at FPDW. I bounced
around the break-even mark for about an hour, then a two hour run of
unbelievable deals and draws started. 5oak's and dirty royals were
regular occurrences. I maxed out the credit meter and coins were
dropping into the tray on winning hands. The tray was overflowing
when I "finally" hit quad ducks. It wasn't my biggest profit session
ever, but it certainly was the most FUN I've ever had.
The way I see it, you put $5000 coin in, and took $5200 coin out, or
104% payout. Quityerbitchin.

I have had quite a few sessions of NSUD 25c play where I have went home
in the hole while hitting the deuces. Once I hit them twice and still
did not take that much home.
I usually play 2000 to 2400 hands per session.
However a session of deuces twice and royal three times makes it a
little easier to bear.
Yeh, variance!
Been there, done that.
And still is happening some of the times I
venture off to play it. I feel for you.
