Anyone know where I can find a discussion of this game on the
internet? There is a version at the Rampart.
Shock Wave VP
There are versions of shockwave at many casinos. This forum is as likely or more than any other to find a discussion on Shockwave. It is a very highly volatile game.
Here from the VPFREE db are most of the various available paytables...
1-1-3-5-6-09-25-100-800 ... 93.23%
1-1-3-5-7-10-25-100-800 ... 95.72%
1-1-3-5-8-10-25-100-800 ... 97.34%
1-1-3-5-8-11-25-100-800 ... 98.45%
1-1-3-5-8-12-25-100-800 ... 99.55%
What would you like to discuss about it ?
Regards
A.P.

Well, as usual, the wording in my post could be better! I thought it
would be a good idea if I did some research on Shock Wave, before
asking questions about it on this forum. So I was hoping someone could
direct me to an explanation of the game on some website.
Specifically, the Rampart's Shock Wave has an EV of 93.01%, ignoring
the special quad bonus. The special bonus quad presumably raises the
Ev to 97.34%. How is that calculation done? At the Rampart the
special quad bonus is 4000 coins. Is that the bonus for all Shock
Waves (the vpfree paytable doesn't give the bonus amount)?

The last time this was discussed was June of 2005. See message 44898:

Also take a look at the Wizard of Odds site regarding the game:

This might not be helpful, but onetime while walking through Circus
Circus I got the Shockwave of my life. I spied a Shockwave VP where
someone had hit a 4K and cashed out. So I played the ten hands
off. No, I didn't get it but LMAO the whole time. Some people are
just so oblivious.

Thanks for the info. The game at the Rampart appears to be a typical
Shock Wave game, and well below 100%. I was hoping the 4000 coin bonus
was higher than most Shock Waves, or the "10 game" bonus cycle longer
than most Shock Waves, but it isn't. I've strung together quads in
less than 10 hands, but it doesn't happen very often. Maybe the best
approach is to watch others play and look for someone who cashes out on
the first quad (as someone mentioned)!

I personally have hit two Shockwave 4OAKs in my short career of VP and
even shorter time playing Shockwave.
The first time was my first trip to Las Vegas after turning 21. We
were staying at Circus Circus and I put $20 into the nearest VP
machine not knowing the difference between one and another and I got a
4OAK and the lights and bells started ringing (I had just gotten a
previous 125-coin 4OAK). It said, "HAND PAY, $1000." I couldn't
believe it. My first $20 ever gambled in Las Vegas. I was hooked.
It's like they knew it was my first trip and they had to get me for
life...
