I have an Excel Spreadsheet, which I am currently using
to record the results of all gambling sessions. Input
for each session:
Start and Stop times
Casino
Game (form of VP, craps, or BJ)
Win or Loss amount (in separate columns)
Coin-in (dollars wagered)
Dollar amount of 20-to-1 or higher payoffs
Intent is to not only support tax return, but also
monitor my performance on various games. By actually
recording the low-frequency payoffs, and assuming that
the higher-frequency payoffs tend to occur with "close
to" expected frequency, an "expected win/loss", for a
given session, can be calculated. Over time, perfect
play should result in an actual win/loss very close to
expected. Ratio of actual, to expected, return should
give an "ER Accuracy" value, comparable to that which
Frugal VP calculates and displays. At least IMO, the
best that can be reliably accomplished under actual
casino conditions.
I am an experienced programmer/analyst, but I am NOT
all that familiar with Excel. What I currently have
is definitely capable of accepting/editing/storing
all specified inputs, and supporting basic
calculations such as summarizing win/loss amounts
and elapsed time. But, the input procedure requires
more keystrokes (and manual calculations to convert
slot-club points to coin-in) than are logically
necessary. I "strongly suspect" that quite a bit of
improvement could be accomplished in Excel (2000) . .
