I don't think Ellis deserves to get a nice writeup in your column. They made some pretty drastic changes to their club about a year ago and it was not for the better. Plus, what happened to all the freeplay that people had earned before the changes were made? I don't know how to say it politely except it was a dirty move on management's part. And if you look at their website they still brag about their rewards for best slot club from 2008 and 2012, but that is deceptive and disingenuous because it is now a completely different slot club, again, for the worse. They need to take that "bragging" off of their website. They know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Very misleading and not trustworthy.

For all of the above, I feel you should have just skipped them in your list of clubs to cover. They don't deserve a good writeup after the way they treated their longtime players. So if you can't write a truthful and negative review about them, then just give them the silent treatment. If you don't tell the whole story, then it takes away from the credibility of this column.

Any person doing a review is going to tell you what exists now. I can't think of too many slot clubs that are better now than they were 10 or 20 years ago. Let's face it folks it's a lot less player friendly out there now than it used to be, and I can't see it getting better. All of Scot's slot club reviews are non critical, he just lays out what the slot club gives you in a straight forward manner. It's up to players in forums like vpfree to discuss the merits and deficiencies of those slot clubs.

Regards
A.P.

I know it's not like the "old days" now, and I understand Scot's column is non-critical, but as I said, Ellis did some dirty stuff to their players. I just said they don't DESERVE to have a nice review.

At the very least, people should know that when they see the glowing accolades on Ellis' website like "voted best club of 2008 and 2012", it was an entirely different animal back then and those rewards don't mean nothing now. It is deceptive of Ellis to leave that on their website.

Fair enough. I can't disagree with that logic. If I was a former player there I'd feel exactly the same way.

I'm not writing about the past. I review the current club and provide the
info. If I find some positives about the place (i.e. good food, good vp,
good club rate, etc) I will mention those, but generally try to remain
neutral and objective. Btw, I do not write the headlines that accompany the
article that often sounds very complimentary.

Regards,

Scot

It's been a long, long time since I allowed a slot club to track my coin-in/coin-out. I'm the guy that wrote about how to work Laughlin for perpetual comp back in the day. But now every thing is different including my location. I don't join slot clubs in my present location. I turn them down flat and act like I'm some kind of weirdo about it. There is no way I'm going to allow them to track my coin-in/coin-out when I hold such a big edge against them. For the last 8 years I pay my own freight.

Makes a lot of sense especially since a lot of card clubs these days have such meager benefits. You see more and more gamblers refusing to play with slot cards and refusing tracking at table games. It's funny sometimes when you see some casino employee going around offering to get players slot cards and you see the reactions of the players against even the mention of "slot card". I've seen players just cash out and walk out which makes the nice casino employee, generally a nicely dressed young lady, look like some sort of escort or drug dealer or panhandler or something. More and more players don't like being treated like criminals if they should happen to win something in a casino.
