San Diego Trip

Planning a trip in August to San Diego from the east coast; first and probably last trip, so I am not looking for long term benefits, just interested in playing some good games -- will probably stay a few nights at Harrahs Rincon comped and then stay a week in La Jolla. Looking at database, it looks like Valley View and Viejas have best selection of games (prefer multiline $1, $2) -- are there any negatives about either place? How far are they from Harrahs? Any other casino suggestions? How much coin in to earn comp to nice restaurant / buffet? Any tips of any kind welcome. Thanks, RW.

Valley View is usually very crowded. It is 5 minutes away from Harrah's by car. You will get a free buffet by joining the players club. The buffet is one of the best anywhere. Steakhouse is very good also. You can probably get a comp in a few hours of multiline $. Pala is another place to investigate (about 20 minutes from Harrah's). More info at www.thegamingguide.com

Agree with casinoredwolf.

On Valley View, as a new member, it's a great free offer, as their buffet (recently expanded) is usually fantastic.
I think you get a free buffet just for joining the club,
and minimal play (perhaps 20 pts at $4/pt vp) will get you +$20 in Moreplay (or freeplay).

VP GAMES to know: Bonus Deuces wild (.25 only).
3play and higher Super DB/Super Aces as best games.
Some 8/5 Bonus Pkr.

Not so Ugly Deuces at $1 single line or .25 SPIN poker (if you dare).

That's about all I recall. Their 50/100 plays now have poore pay tables. There are a few SuperBonus pokers (3/5 play format, require 6 coins per line) to try. Takes bigger bankroll even to attempt, though. DON'T BOTHER TRYING to play for free comps.
The hosts most likely only reward ttheir loyal 'ELITE" and above players (unless you plan to run $10-20K thru their machines .. then check with a HOST FIRST to see if that would earn you any extra meals...). With economy the way it is, ALL of these places have cutback on what they will dole out to players; esp. those playing only better vp games....

I'd try to make more of a vacation out of the visit (as HRincon has NOTHING worth playing, except at $5 and higher denom)...
There are plenty of sights and places to visit, if you so choose.

Just my .02c.
Also - other than 10% off (HRincon ) for Diamond, food prices are a little high.

PPS - Viejas is like an hour++ drive away, even Barona.
So if you're at Rincon, you may as well just focus minimal play there or at Valley View, imho.

You are free to check out Pala/Pechanga (nice casino properties),
but I don't know of much playable games at those places.
For LIVE POKER, though, PEchanga has a pretty nice room, just high 'rakes'. Play during promotions (like Thursdays, $150/300 bonus for highest hands made every hour)....

Martin.

Promotions for locals DAILY, so that keeps them coming in.
BIG DRAWING days on WEDNESDAYS.

BUSSED in groups arrive about 9:30 a.m., so if you're at Rincon,
just get up early and eat a quick bkfst/coffee, and get to VV by 9:00 am or so. Usually most machines open then.

the better vp games in VIP area should be open at least until noon-ish,but after that, hard to say.

VALLEY VIEW casino WEBSITE also lists daily events/concerts etc.
Google "Valley View Casino" for the month you are arriving to get an idea of what's happening that day.

If you like live poker, their new poker room uses 'dealer-less' tables, which aren't too bad. I've done their morning tournaments a few times (for $25, a good way to kill a few hours), unless you are wanting to play vp badly....

GL,
Martin
