In December, I'm going to be at Rincon and was planning to drive to Las
Vegas before flying home to Reno. Has anyone driven San Diego to Las
Vegas recently? Any major construction delays or things to watch out
for? Thank you.

It'll take you at least 20-40 min. to reach I-15 from RINCON, which is
about 20 miles away from the I-15. Then another 4.5-5.5 hours,
depending on when you leave to go TO LV and COME back.
Traffic generally heavier 4-7 PM weekdays, and esp FRIDAYS.
Coming back, on SUNDAYS. SO if you can go TO LV Sun-Th, better
traffic flow for you. Come back Mon-Sat, and try to avoid return day
of Sunday.
I'd allow 6 hours, esp. with a new "CalTrans" I-15/215 detour project
scheduled thru early Spring 2007.
This means certain weekends, there are detour routes as you head NORTH
towards the 'Cajun pass' (which heads over the mtns. in San Bernadino
county, as you go towards High Desert.
Best to call 1-866-383-4631 on THIS project and
also 1-800-427-7623 (toll free VOICE activated current Highway
conditions). Ask for highway 15, 215, as those are the main freeways
northbound from San Diego to Las Vegas.

also contains ALL the info you possibly could need.
I-15 is also generally being widened (seems like its taking forever)
around Barstow area (about 1/2 way or 160-180 miles northwards, and a
good stopping point to take a break, get some gas,etc...
ALSO keep radio tuned in to FM 98-99 (it varies as you drive
northward), but they do regular TRAFFIC incident reports out of
Barstow, and also give you various LV trivia/show updates and info. in
between music sets, to keep you company on the 5++ hour drive.
