Sam's Town staple, gone

For over 15 years, Sam's Town had a unique quarter deuces game that paid $500 on 4 deuces. The total return on this game was 100.95%. In the early days there were over 40 machines on the floor and over the years the number of machines was reduced. For about the last 2 years only 2 machines remained. Now there are none. These very fast machines, which were coin droppers, where replaced by TITO quarter 10/7 double bonus machines. Also destroyed in this "sweep" were the 3 unique aces or better OIJ machines. This game had a total return of 101.42% and also was a very fast coin dropper. These 5 machines, plus one 7's wild machine were all replaced by the TITO 10/7 double bonus machines.

Where were these machines located in Sam's Town? I've never seen them
before. They must be on the second level near where the buffet used to be.

For the wife and I, this was the most traumatic VP news of 2008. Was phoned
by a player/friend on Wednesday to tell us the news. I guess they were
removed on Tue. night. AFAIK, this was the last positive game in the
building that was clocking at only $1 per point. There were two other $1
per point plays that had been there for years that were killed by some ditz,
irate, tourist bitch from hell a couple months ago. I bring it up now for
two reasons, 1- both plays were there for years and being only two machines
each, no one ever posted it for the world to kill and 2- it emphasizes the
importance of scouting. Both of these plays were in the 11 machine bank a
couple rows in from the valet entrance. On the nickel side of the bank, two
3 play .05 FPDW progressives, the ones that the raving bitch complained that
she could not get on, and on the quarter side, two 10/6 DDB progressives
right next to each other, in the middle of an 11 machine bank. The day
after her bitch session the 3 play deuces were gone, and the next day after
that the 3 play DDB was gone. This latest whack on the upstairs deuces was
quite costly. Based on about $45,000 coin in each per month, the wife and I
were both getting $240 / month in free play, and with the extra comps and
bennies from our host and change people, this was greater than a 2-1/2%
play. And so it goes. At least they did it early enough in the month that I
can go next door to the new Cannery East and start working for a mailer.
Footnote, was there today to say nice to know you to a few select employees,
in case we decide the rest of the inventory wont fit our plans. Happened to
notice that the 9-6 JOB .25 progressive that was behind the escalator
opening was still missing. They had originally told me a week or so ago
that they had only moved them temporarily and that they would be back, so I
mention to one of our favorite change people, why aren't they back. She
says, "Oh, somebody from corporate was here and said that they looked funny
there, so move them". So they took out some ignorant slot machines from the
wall right next to the bingo room entrance, and put the progressives there.
Meanwhile, this big open empty area , where they used to be. I think they
ought to promote this guy. With the value of square footage inside a
casino, he decides to take a slot bank out to the warehouse, or wherever and
move a VP progressive bank because it looked funny to create this big open
area that is now generating 0 $. Good thing BYD stock is only down 70% in
the last year. Rant over, please join your regularly scheduled posts,
already in progress.

They were upstairs in a long bank near Sheplers.

I used to play the 10/6 DDB and the DW if they were busy when I was
in town. I was gutted last trip to see them gone (particulary as my
results had stunk up till that point).

Many times I had turned up and found the DDB occupied. In every
instance if I asked the person playing how long they were going to be
I never once got a negative response. Many times I would go play
somewhere else for a few hours then return to get on the machines. I
have found 99% of the VP community plays well together. It's a
really shame that this Bit... er, Bad lady ruined a play that had
been there for years.

Like you say the ST Deuces being removed is a major blow. No real
reason for a tourist to visit when MSS offers so much more, for less
coin in (although the new B Connected card might have fixed that!)

Cheers

What happened to the Sunshine Policy? I thought all of the better video poker games known to the vpFree Administrator will be shared to the membership. Why weren't these shared with the membership?

These machines at Sam's Town had been there for many years, maybe
since the place opened. They were also in the database for many
years and had been mentioned on the forum several times. I was
giving the location listed in the database. They had been moved
to the MIA section of the Sam's Town page after Randi.d's post
saying they were gone.

vpFae,

Thanks for the update. Being in the MIA section, I guess that is why I never paid much attention to looking for them. Probably a good idea for people to look in the MIA section to see if good plays return from the dead.

Are you referring to the Sams Town Bonus deuces (100.9%)? There were two upstairs but as these were the old type requiring coins may be modernization gave them an excuse to remove them?
