Sam's Town Mystery My Aunt F( )<#!*g Fanny

That is very well written and well explained Albert. Finally a video poker
player who does not have the I want, I deserve, I am entitled to attitude
that is so often displayed. As if the sole purpose of the casino being in
business was to cater to the every whim of the advantage player.

I believe that a good approach is to take what you can get where you can
get it and if what you are offered is not good enough for you, then move on
to greener, or at least potentially greener, pastures.

It's probably as random as a slot machine. In a slot machine what you end
up with on a spin is as random as a computer can make it. That of course
does not mean that all outcomes have an equal chance of showing up, there are
many more non paying combinations than paying combinations.

The Boyd promotion can be set up as follows.

The computer program for this feature has let's say 1,000 individual
multiplier numbers, and they consist of 700 3x multipliers 200 4x multipliers,
90 10x multipliers and 10 50x multipliers. You swipe your card and the
system picks 6 symbols totally at random from the 1,000 in the table, you then
pick one of the 6 symbols. Odds are kind of high that you will always get a
3x or a 4x, but you do have a shot at the 50x and some people will hit it.

The game is totally legitimate in this scenario and totally random. All
slot machines work the same way. To expect better from a casino is not really
a realistic expectation. For myself I'd rather just see them give
everybody the same multiplier and get rid of the B.S., but my guess is that the
majority of customers prefer the element of chance.

The assumption that the point multipiers are randomly assigned is a very
important issue here. The answer is in the game presented itself. The screen
shows 6 boxes that you can select any one of, it certainly appears that
which box you select matters and is a part of the game. If the choices are
put into the boxes before you select then you would expect a 1 in 6 chance
to get each choice. If what you get is pre determined then the game is a
sham...the game is really a scratch off ticket and the entire pretext of your
choice is meaningless. The fact is that the game appears as a game of
chance, one you have invested time, energy, and money to come and play. It seems
deciteful to me for it to be anything but a true game of chance. Of note,
on thursday Suncoast has a similar promotion that everyone can qualify for
and is advertised as up to 50x points just like YAH days. When you push the
button for your multiplier you just are assigned that multiplier, no
choosing boxes requir ed. Why are the 2 promotions handled differently?

Your explaination AP is very well thought out but inaccurate. I have taken videos of each try of mine and my wife playing the YAH multipier game. I can assure you that behind each box are all the possiblities of multipliers from 4x to 30X for video poker. (now 4x to 10x at suncoast). Each try there is the box that shows the highest multiplier possible so at sams town you would expect to get the 30x points every 6th week on average. Clearly this doesn't happen so the game appears very misleading to me and perhaps something the gambling control board could look into. The game APPEARS to be a game of chance on it's surface but in reality it seems to me to be a scratch off.

I want everything, but I settle for whatever I can get.

Without seeing the actual computer code there is no way to know for sure. There is the distinct possibility that the images they show are strictly for show, and do not reflect what the computer is doing in the background. If that is true then the game you describe would be very misleading. I doubt, however that it would be illegal, because there is probably nothing stated by Boyd that the game is fair.

A.P. If the game is considered to be gambling then it MUST be fair and based upon a RNG. They would not be allowed to mislead you into thinking you have a 1 in 6 chance of a good output only for reality to be otherwise. Suppose the same thing were done on a VP machine? Aren't we all playing under the idea that each hand is based upon a new desk of 52 cards with the same chance to get any card at any time. If it were otherwise it would be an illegal game. Has anyone talked to the gambling control board to have them investigate further?

The bigger question is this.
Is a kiosk game really gambling ?
To me gambling means you put up some money make your bet and you either win or lose.
In a kiosk game you don't put up money, and you always win something.
I look at it as a gift or prize from the casino.
You may say that you had to gamble in order to get the opportunity, but I don't think that argument would get you too far with the authorities.

It may not seem fair to you, but I sincerely doubt that the authorities would do anything about it, but if you care enough you could probably speak to one of their enforcement people and they could tell you if it would be something that they would investigate.

Funny. This YAH promotion resembles the completely legal Treasure Chest video poker game that is so much fun to play at MSS and at the Cal. Though one chooses between 5 treasure chests after drawing to or being dealt a 4-of-a-kind. Certainly, the grand prize, the 4,000 credit payoff, occurs much more infrequently than one-out-of-five. And this is certainly legal. I whole-heartedly agree with A.P.! Hope for the best and ignore the rest.

Jersey Stu

The Kiosk game is a marketing thing, the six choices are randomly selected but selected based on criteria for your specific player profile. The five other choices revealed may or may not have been representative of the actual choices you had. In short, it's all a marketing scam. You put up nothing of value to play so it's not gambling.

I think you are totally wrong when you state that "you put up nothing of value to play". Specifically what you put up of value is your time, energy, and transportation costs. What the casino got of value was your presents at their place of business, which is EXACTLY what they hoped for. Clearly value was provided on the customers part, what is not provided from the casino is a chance of winning high multipliers as indicated on the game.
