Sometimes, places screw up. I've read that the coffee shop at the Suncoast
adds sales tax to a comp also. But in most cases the sales tax policy seems to
be as I've observed. The sales tax is usually there in the total; when the
outlet (owned by the casino) sees you're paying with a comp or with points, the
sales tax is subtracted when you pay. Other observations and the actual law
would be interesting.

tax IS added. It has to do with whether money changes hands between the
casino and the outlet.
Example: At the Palms coffee shop/buffet/Garduno's/Little Buddha (all owned
by the Palms), no sales tax when you use your points. At N9NE Steakhouse or
Alize (leased outlets at the Palms), sales tax is added and comes off your
points.
