Sahara closing

Good, all toilets must close in Las Vegas. The next three toilets that need to fold are the Riviera, Circus Circus and the Imperial Palace. It's 2011 and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin aren't walking through that door. The North end of Las Vegas Blvd is dead. The only reason the IP still exists is it's too difficult to demolish.

Sad in a way though...I remember when Sahara was a fun place to stay. We
would go there all the time when they had room rates like $11 per night
including 1 buffet per person (oh, and I think included free tix to
Boylesque!!!)!

Granted, that was a looooooong time ago and really another Vegas ago. That
was before everything became mega resorts and room rates skyrocketed and (in
my opinion at least) Vegas lost a bit of its panache.

And believe it or not, I actually stayed at the IP when it first opened as
the IP .... with my PARENTS! It was actually considered a pretty decent
property back then.

Times have changed haven't they?

Times have changed! I remember staying there maybe 10 or 15 years ago, and it was nice then. I have fond memories of it, although I doubt I would stay there now. It IS sad though that the old places have closed, especially the Stardust. Vegas won't be able to keep inventing itself, and recycling itself though, with the economy like it is? I don't see it. If TI goes downhill, for instance, would they just implode that and start over? Or the Venetian, etc? I hope not. And it makes a big impact for over 1,000 people to lose their jobs, especially in these times. Ouch. I feel sorry for them.

This is sad. A real part of Old Vegas. I hope they can mothball the place and reopen if the economy comes back.

That's not really a problem anymore in the US of A. There is extended unemployement, special refies for your underwater mortaged home, welfare, etc. Funded by the few left with jobs and the US printing press.

That all helps but unemployment doesn't cover all your expenses or provide medical insurance.

That right! And don't forget some posters use their unemployment checks to gamble to forget their troubles. This will help the other casinos econmoy!

Anyone have any idea about how they are handling balances on your account. Both cash and comps. We did not leave much cash balance but we have about $3500 in comp dollars out there.

$3500! That's worth $1750 in free play. You can redeem up to $200 in comps for $100 in free play a day.

I know - but unfortuantely we are in California so we can't go in every day to use our comps that way. And with their stupid limit at gift shops - we each can only buy $100 a day of stuff like batteries, mouthwash, hand lotion, soap, toothpaste, etc..
I called there and the players club pretty much told me - if you don't use it then you lose it. But that may change and they don't know.

Since you sent this message, I heard that all comps can be redeemed
for free play with no limit, all at once. I can't even remember who
told me, so I'd check it out before relying heavily enough on it to
make a trip from out of state.
