Safety Living in Nevada?

WWW.GovernmentGuide.com lists Nevada as the Second Most Dangerous
State in 2003. The Rankings were determined as follows:

1. Crime rates per 100,000 in murder, rape, robbery, aggravated
assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft are individually applied
to a formula and compared to the national average.
2. The category results are added to give each state a composite
score.

3. The composite scores are ranked from highest to lowest to
determine the safest and most dangerous states. The farther below
the national average, the safer a state ranks (and vice versa) on
the final list.

Note: Crime figures are for the most recent year for which final FBI
numbers are available.

I was wondering how dangerous Nevada is to live in?

Is Las Vegas safer than the rest of Nevada?
