I guess I'll play positive VP in downtown vegas and the Four Queens
and just play live poker in Laughlin.

That being said, running just a bit of money through the River Palms
10/7 DB coin droppers got me a swipe at their Frenzy promotion. Only
$10 in the icon (the smallest of the bunch) I picked, but it could
have been $200 as they show the amounts you did not pick.

Still the $10 was more than what you report as cashback.

Well in the olden days (2003 or so) that $1250 (250 points a day) got you
decent comped room mail. I am not sure what it does today?

RP has been running a 250 point daily swipe to win for most months over the
last couple of years. You pick one blob at the kiosk. But that $10 cash prize
was not the minimum...deception. Most prizes are $2 minimum for your $1250
coin-in.

The mailers used to have bounceback cash coupons, but now it is free-play.
RP definitely divides the world into at least three regions...local, regional
and the rest of the country. The regional drive-in types usually get 2X a
month room/bounce offers.

I peaked at 2x$50 and 2X 2 free nights a few years ago. My mail has stopped
now for a couple of years. Of course I have not given them a good $1+k shot
in a day in a very long time.

When I examine it...it's when they ripped out the VP in the Bermuda Club
bartops. That was my last straw for this ColSux property. It wasn't a very good
VP play with Bonus 7/5 3-way progressives in quarters that averaged about 99%.
But you could watch "the game" in there, visit with Jimmy the day bartender
or see free live tunes while playing VP after the sun went down.

Other factors are the demise of the non-smoking room, elimination of the long
standing Card of the Day promo in Winners Wharf, elimination of a couple
dozen FPDW games including comfy slant-tops, elimination of the "Young at Heart"
deals, the elimination of John Sullivan as the front man for
drawing/promos,..he could talk it up good, a skill that casinos overlook sometimes.

Anyway, I think RP still has a fine low rolller deal going. Room offers
always seem to include weekends. They still have some good VP clunkers. You
can't beat the hot dog in Java Joes. Where else can you put on your own cheese,
onions and yes, sliced Jalepenos on your Nathan's chili dog...you just grab a
beer at the VP bar twenty feet away.

I just returned from a weekend in the blast furnace where I
authorized play at RP for my merry band of gamblers. I have recently
resurfaced on their mailing list and had two $5 free play coupons,
one which was good thru Friday and the other was good starting the
next day. I did not put on enough play to get the "pick a penguin
for money" swipe due to the heavy play by others on both my favorite
NSUD spin-poker machines. I've also decided I don't like coin
droppers anymore. I did play enough for the free Philly
cheesesteak, fries, and a soft drink and also the 2-for-1 buffet,
but I didn't eat anything at RP so I can't give a review.

I don't know the RP well, but I could not find the "8 25c NSUD Slant
Tops Upstairs in the Southeast Corner." There are a lot of vp
machines in that area, and the tournament machines are there, too.
I checked each bank and found Illinois deuces on all machines at all
denominations. I thought perhaps they were the slant tops on the
far south side since those were popular, but they were popular
evidently because they offer $.05 vp. The rest of the inventory
seems to be intact. Let me know if I was looking in the wrong place.

Of the two ColSux properties in Laughlin, the RP employees seem to
me to be the unhappiest. I had good customer service at the Trop
Ex, but mediocre to indifferent service at RP. AQ was jammin' all
weekend with a Three Card Poker tournament and people in town for
the Bullhead City River Regatta. AQ was really loud and frantic.
My home Harrah's was busy with several charter groups in house,
including mine. I skipped GN, Pioneer, CB, EW, and Don's place
completely. By Sunday night, everything had settled down.
