Royal Karma Needed

The sorry truth... in spite of my self-appointed somewhat self
deprecating nickname of Royal Flusher... I am in dire need of a Royal.

Mrs. Flusher and I are off to Las Vegas Monday for our 17th(?) trip or
so. We converted to VP about our third trip out.

I'll never forget that fateful day as we strolled into Luxor - and
decided to try out one of those vid-ee-ohhh Poker machines.

First time out I got a Royal Flush. One quarter in. "This is EASY." I
thought and we never looked back.

We did realize that we needed to learn strategy and I started
searching for information. I've never stopped.

VPTutor on DOS made us better players and we made a fortune in comps
on the old 1-100 coin dollar machines at T.I.

On that trip I was dealt 4 to a royal in spades and didn't get it. The
next hand, I bet $5 and I was dealt a Royal in Spades.

That was my last Royal and it was almost ten years ago.

Mrs. Flusher has had two.

The last few trips I've had this burning neeeeeed.... if I don't get a
Royal soon I'm gonna explode.

Part of the trouble is that the games where we used to stay have been
downgraded, and we get less comps and offers. The whole thing has
spiraled down on the strip so that we are paying more and more for
room and food and having less and less playing time. I figure I need a
lot more playing time to snag some royals than the 2-3 hours we've
managed the last few trips. (The machines seemed so *tight*...)

So.

A few months ago we decided to totally revamp our strategy. I've done
a ton of reading and analysis. Frugal VP, WinPoker and Dunbar's
program have all gotten a workout. Here's what we came up with.

As quarter players, we can't survive on a $300 daily bankroll on
shortpay bonus games. Especially when that includes some slot play.

- increase our daily bankroll to $500
- perfect our play on and stick to 9/6 JoB
- stick to downtown where the comps are a little easier
- hopefully we will make up in room and food the half a percent we
give up on JoB
- hopefully we will start getting some room offers again once we
establish ourselves

The lower volatility of JoB should mean we get a lot more playing time
- more coin in=comps, and more hours of play means.... hopefully some
Royals.

I've played about 15,000 hands of JoB with careful, careful study to
nail the correct plays.
I'm now making about four cents an hour in errors. I feel this is
about as good as I'm going to get.

We've booked 2 nights at the Nugget - but it looks like we won't play
there except maybe on the bonus flush machines with a strategy card
for the higher flush plays.

2 at the El Cortez, 2 at the Four Queens, 2 nights at Plaza.

We hope to play for 8 hours a day and I'll shoot some dice too.

We're established at the GN but have never stayed anywhere else downtown.

So.

That's the scenario, and now what I need from you all out there is to
take pity on these Royal-less Flushers, these recreational but driven
button-pushing video poker junkies....

....and send Karma. Say to yourself the mantra, "ROYALS for the FLUSHERS!"

Find a dream catcher and shake it until it rattles a few Royals to the ground.

Burn some incense. If you don't have any incense, sniff a stick of
Right Guard and think of ROYALS for the FLUSHERS!

I'm begging you all... help us in this quest, eight days starting
Monday night at 10:30pm.

Cause if I don't get a Royal this trip, I'm gonna bust.

Thanks,

Royal Flusher

Royal Flusher: Increasing your bankroll to $500 a day is a very reasonable move and will give you a much better chance of increasing your play, 9/6 jb is a good play if you want to minimize your fluctuations, although the long term payback isn't positive.
Let me offer you a good alternative to downtown.

Try Sam's Town, they have 9/6 jb with a progressive Royal (2 banks), that sometimes get positive, and they have 8/5 bonus poker (virtually identical strategy to 9/6 jb) with progressive suited Royals that sometimes get very positive (my last trip at one point the average Royal on these machines was at $1700) .
The rooms are nice, the food options are reasonable, and their mail offers are as good as downtown.
Go get them Royals

If you want to stick to quarter 9/6 JB, I'd suggest triple play.
You'll get in three times as many hands and that should help smooth
out your results, increase the liklihood of hitting a royal, and
earn more comps.

And don't try to force royals ... they just happen. Relax, enjoy
yourselves, and be patient.

Best of luck!

Fair advice, but don't dismiss the added volatility of multiplay over
single line play. Someone who isn't comfortable with $.50 single line
play is likely to find 3-play quarters a bit of a rough ride.

And, of course, in putting more than twice the coin-in through each
hour, 3-play can make mincemeat in short time out of what would
otherwise be a very comfortable full day single line stake.

This is wonderful, I finally have the motivation to dig out that box
of incense I have tucked away some where. And when I find it I'm
burning the first one for the Flushers. Then I'm burning the second
one for myself as I've never had a Royal Flush.

Isn't there someone coming to the rescue with one of C Lee's infamous
Lucky Charms? (that's a homage to the original SHG/vp-mail)
