Royal Aces

Does anyone know the EV for 8/5 Royal Aces? I wrote down the full
paytable and then promptly lost it. Here's my recollection:

RF 4000
SF 250
4A 4000
234 400
5-K 250
FH 40
FL 25
ST 20
3K 15
2P 5
AA 5

The only part I'm not totally sure about is the SF, whether it paid
250 or 500. The rest should be correct.

I don't have a simple way to analyze an aces-or-better game. I
thought about simply reducing the EV of the similar game with a
jacks-or-better paytable by 3/4ths of high pair EV, but I don't think
that's a very good estimate because (presumably) the strategy would
change pretty drastically, ala kings-or-better JW.

I don't find the game listed on the Wizard or Odds website, which is
where I usually go to find out about such non-standard games.

You can analyze this game using the "User Defined" feature in
WinPoker, starting with a Double Bonus template and changing the pay
table as required. When you do this, you find that even though the
payout for the quad Aces looks enticing, you give up a lot when you
eliminate payouts for any pair other than Aces.

With a 250-coin payout for the SF, WinPoker shows an expected return
(ER) of 96.4819% with perfect play. The ER with a 500-coin SF isn't
much better, at 97.0564%. Not a very attractive game, either way.

One more thing. As you might expect, the variance is EXTREMELY high,
at either 183.266 (250-coin SF) or 183.982 (500-coin SF). This is
more than 4 times the variance of 10/6 DDB.

Doh! I should have looked in Winpoker first. I was pretty sure I
didn't remember the high pair option being definable - just the quads
- and I posted before confirming. Should have known better.

Thanks! Also thanks to Nudge for pointing out it's also on the
videopoker.fws1.com site.

Guess I'm either getting rusty, or lazy in my research. Probably both.
