I have NEVER said - and I have NEVER heard any skilled player or pro or gaming writer say that you can never win on a negative expectation game and that you will always win on a positive one. Anything can happen on any machine during any one session, or one day, or one year, or even longer.

Anyone who plays both negative and positive machines could pick one period of time when they won on the negative game and lost on the positive one. That is a VERY common experience but doesn't prove anything. Do you know how much those "lucky" players who are hitting lots of jackpots on "bad" machines (while you are losing playing perfectly) lost yesterday, or the last year.

Today's score isn't really very important unless you live your life for instant gratification - and lose your common sense when it doesn't come. Skilled gamblers are patient.

Do you know how much those "lucky" players who are hitting
lots of jackpots on "bad" machines (while you are losing playing
perfectly) lost yesterday, or the last year?

Well if they play for any length of time we can simulate them with a
computer program and see the results typically experienced.

The biggest problem with bad paytables isn't the fear I wont win
long term. My biggest problem is that they eat my bankroll up so
much faster that I never usually have an oppurtunity to hit a
jackpot. And if I do hit one I can play it all away in a night or
two. Then I never get comped anything because I didn't play as
much which is most of the fun, FOR ME (not speaking for anyone
else). I like to play video poker and go to Vegas. I'm not just
going for one weekend a year, paying for my room and only gambling
for an hour or two.

Now this is just me I play 5-6 weeks in a year and last year I made
about $4000 strictly on FPDW machines in Vegas. At the local
casinos where I live I always lose several hundred dollars on non
full pay games and have never even hit a jackpot. I believe after
much experience this is because they eat my money to fast.

Actually there had been several posts on this general subject (short term vs. long term) plus there had been a link to a published article (that we aren't supposed to discuss and if I had any sense I wouldn't read)which had made an accusation that I strongly disagreed with. In my weaker moments I just get tired of being lied about week after week in print. But I am climbing back up my throne and will start looking at such stuff as a gnat that someone will swat out of my sight immediately - and we can all have a good laugh about how ridiculous this whole non-event is.

Basically echoing Jean's response... yes, there is a particular
writer who has alleged MANY times that the "optimal play" crowd
(obviously referring to Jean, Bob Dancer, etc.) guarantee that a
100.000000001% machine will ALWAYS be a winner while a 99.99999999%
will ALWAYS be a loser. Of course this is a bunch of baloney. All
reputable VP writers warn time and time again that even 100%+ VP is
very volatile. In the first Frugal book, Jean warns that if you
don't hit a royal or 4 deuces in a FPDW session, you're almost
guaranteed to be a loser that session. All of the Dancer/Daily
strategy guides warn: "It is possible to lose large amounts of money
even while playing perfectly."

Another false statement this writer makes is that you must play every
hand perfectly throughout infinity for a 100%+ payback to
materialize. Of course, whenever you misplay hands, it reduces your
advantage, but if you don't mess up that often, you'll still have the
edge. We also know no one can play throughout infinity, but the
longer you do play, the closer your actual results will come to what
the math says they should be.
