I found out that 2X points for locals is no longer in effect. I also
went to the Mad Money Shopping Spree and looked around. Found a couple
of useful items. BUT, I asked 5 workers about gift cards in lieu of
the available merchandise and no one had an answer. Finally I tracked
down the overworked person in charge and found out that you could
redeem your holiday points for either Walmart or Sam's Club gift
cards. The redemption rate is for every $10 of holiday points equals
$7.50 for a gift card. The gift cards are rounded down to the whole
dollar. It takes about 10 - 12 weeks for them to arrive in the mail.
While the redemption rate isn't that great, it beats paying for stuff
that you might not want. Supposedly there were 2 signs that stated the
availability of this option, but I sure never saw them.
