Bill,
I just remember the Gold River days, never played there.
River Palms in my opinion should keep up with the cheap room offers
to keep the place filled. Probably Winner's Wharf is going to need
some adjustment. They give away food way too easy, .2% rate plus the
Sunday, put $250 coin-in, get a $10 comp promo. The quality of food has gone downhill because it is all given away.
I hope they leave the decent games on the floor and adjust the other
things.
Though the gambling is good at RP, I never spent much time there even as VP
went downhill at GN. On a VP basis, not sure why I didn't spend more time
there, personal relationships at GN maybe.
Rooms are large with great view of river but could use a remodel. One of the
few casinos with their own beach. Excellent comp program but not much that I
can think of to use it on so valued it accordingly. Food never went downhill
because it never was uphill as far as I can remember. Preferred GN's River Cafe
over RP's gourmet restaurant even if prices were the same due to inconsistent
quality at RP.
However, I'm reconsidering why I go to Laughlin. It used to be for events &
tournaments as well as good gambling & cheap stays.
Events are no longer considered as I see most of what I want in Reno or Las
Vegas. (For PPE customers, PPE rotates many events through it's properties &
Laughlin is the cheapest as far as play to catch an act.)
Tournaments: used to go to quite a few, especially Flamingo, but must be
getting old as they're no longer as much fun & equity is down. One killer was the
Flamingo attitude as if it's my fault that I don't know as much about how
tournaments are run as the locals do. (Tournament invites are cryptic or written
in invisible ink as far as registration & round times.) GN & Pioneer do a
excellent job of running tournaments & I hope to attend an RP tournament one of
these days because I have a high opinion of their Director of Marketing, Janette
Hallmark (formerly with Pioneer).
Gambling has gone down some in Laughlin. RP has the Winner's Wharf area which
was certified as having 100% machines by Dancer but never played much there.
Probably due to the certification which meant, yes it was 100%+ but not by
much. However, give RP credit for the Winner's Wharf as this was a welcome change
as GN was going the other way.
Have cut down trips to Laughlin by a third (due to cutting out Flamingo
invites). Would like to spend more time at RP instead as I think they're worthwhile
supporting. (Personnel seem to actually want your business.) Hope to find a
reason on the next trip.
