River Palms Drawing

We weren't going to drive up to Laughlin on Saturday, but on Friday
afternoon, Tom and I decided we'd call the River Palms to see if they had any rooms
available (they did). We wanted to see what that big drawing was all about.

The drawing is run in this manner. Everyone who received a post card had to
register starting at 7 p.m. At that time, they asked you to sign a waiver
that if you found the $25,000 tube in the consolation drawing, you would accept
$100. More on that later.

There had to be about 500 people who had their names (post cards) in the
drum. At 8:30, security brought in a huge drum with what I'd guess to be about
250 tubes. Each tube had a screw top, and we were told inside each tube was a
piece of paper which had an amount of money written, ranging from $100 to
$25,000. They then drew 20 post cards from the other drum and started calling
names. Each person had three minutes to get to the stage. Each and every
person's name who was called was there, most were there within 30 seconds. The
person then chose a tube, and they were given a voucher to obtain that amount of
money from the cashier. The highest amount drawn was $2500. Most were $100.
The $25,000 tube was not drawn.

After the 20 people had drawn, they continued to draw names and those chosen
got to choose five tubes in an effort to find the $25,000 tube. It was
finally found, and that person received $100. We were told that the reason they do
is to "prove" that there is a tube with that amount for each drawing.

We were also told who receives post cards. Post cards received in April were
based on play in February. If you put on 1,500 points, you received the
$25,000 drawing post card. If you put on 2,000 points, you received both the
$25,000 drawing entry and the $50,000 drawing post card. The MC said they will
continue doing this in the foreseeable future. Next month's drawings will be
based on March's action. They didn't say if this is just "base" points, or
whether double points also count.

Neither Tom or I had our names drawn. But we did have a very successful 24
hours in Laughlin. Tom hit a Royal and I hit deuces 3 times.

Unfortunately on the trip home, we were detoured off Hwy. 93. They had the
whole highway shut down due to an officer involved shooting north of Wickieup.
So, we stayed on I-40 and drove all the way to Flagstaff, and then south to
Phoenix on I-17. There was another accident on I-17 which delayed us even
more. A trip that normally takes a little over 3 hours took us six!

Tom's cold is better; I came down with it on Sunday afternoon and spent all
day yesterday in bed.

We're heading up to Las Vegas on Friday -- three nights at Caesars Palace,
and then back down to River Palms for two nights on Monday and Tuesday (in a
suite). Will report on that trip. (Tom's does not have to serve on jury duty.
He called last night and was told he didn't have to report today.)

How about that another winning trip!

Glad you checked it out for us and acquired some valuable
information. So there were two separate but equal drawings? Twenty
names for $25k and twenty names for $50k each with 500 entries?

2000 points would be $10k coin-in, so every $10 in drawing value
would add .1% to the ER. So the hard part is figuring out the
drawing value (odds X average win).

odds=20/500 (your numbers) 4% chance of being drawn

average win= ($50,000 + $300x250)/250=$500 (using $300 as a
consolation average)

A 4% chance to win an average of $500 does not sound that strong to
me, a value of $20. Every little bit helps though in the VP wars.
