Ripping Sam's Town?

The only thing that I dislike about Sam's Town is the
$1/day they charge for the phone even if you don't use it.

Such charges as this and electric surcharge seem to be just ways of accomplishing two things:
1. Advertising deceptively low room rates, and
2. Raising room rates without paying the room tax on the increase.

I think Palace Station charges you $4.50/day service fee even if on a comp! Hope I remember right.
