Not to belabor the point but it is a fact that all gamblers lose (at
some point). Nobody wins every time they gamble.

Yes! Another one of those thought-provoking discussions chock full of
pearls of wisdom that I've come to rely on vpFREE for.

   Some players DO keep accurate and honest records of their wins and losses, and know EXACTLY where they stand (especially if it's on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or similar program). But because God knows who's lurking on this board, many of us may not want to give out exact figures in a semi-public forum.
   Players who do not keep honest recorts are most likely deluding themselves as well as speaking untruth. They remember the big scores and don't remember the big losses nearly as well.
   And again, even those who do keep records are more likely to get on the board and brag about wins than go online and say, "I dumped $450 at Resorts last night and couldn't hit a goddam thing." I am in that category.

I keep the most honest and accurate of records, and the simplest way. When we leave the house [california] I have X-amount of money with me. When we get home again, I have x-amount with me. The difference is the win or loss in my books.

I don't keep track of meals, telephone calls added to my "free room" [I do hate that simple charge for local calls!!], tips at meals, and all the other details.

I call this the "Redneck Accounting Method" aka R.A.M. If I have more money than when I left, I won. If not, I lost. It's weird... I never "break even", no matter how hard I try to do it, as LB suggested. <g>

Yeah, for those who missed it, breaking even is statistically the toughest
thing to do, which is why it's so strange that so many of us are always "oh,
about even." <g>

I suspect that the virtues of breaking even are a little exaggerated. I've
seen many books with titles like "Winning at BJ," "Craps To Win," and "Be a
Video Poker Winner," but don't recall seeing any touting "How To Break
Even." Maybe there's an untapped market out there.

And it all gets back to the long term-short term thing, and whether a player
can have any expectations at all, one way or the other, in short term play.
But that's a topic that's been run into the ground recently, so I won't go
there.

If people want to put in their time, enjoy the grind, reap the goodies, and
feel comfortable that they probably won't lose a bundle, more power to them!

Only 83 people responded to the poll, out of approximately 1700 members.
Obviously many people preferred to keep that kind of information private. 83
is not much of a statistical sampling, and to refer back to a few other
recent posts, one has to wonder if all of those 83 were completely honest,
or even if they all knew how much they were either ahead or behind. I did
notice, though, that there was no option to choose that said "oh, about
even." <g>
