Try Fox. However, be aware that it involves a "double shuttle." You take the regular shuttle to the Rental Center, then the Fox shuttle from there to the Fox lot (about two miles south of the RC and just west of LV Blvd.) When you return to the airport, you drop your car at the Fox lot, catch their shuttle to the RC, and board its airport shuttle. Sounds more tedious and time-consuming than it really is. The Fox shuttle runs 7x24 and at 10-min. intervals. I just did a three-day rental of an economy car for $55. Budget wanted $131!

I tried COSTCO and saw a good price for Budget. Will they ask for a COSTCO card? I don't have one.

Yes, you need to be a Costco member.

Getting a good price on a rental car the last few years has been a great source of frustration for me. Costco is a great resource but the only way to insure the best price is check back frequently-book-cancel-rebook as the price goes down. The rate swings are as crazy as air fares from hour to hour. It might seem like a waste of time but I frequently get a rate 50% cheaper than my original reservation. Patience and timing. Never prepay! Amex gold cards have a 100%(no hassle) collision coverage insurance option for $24.95 per rental. My own auto policy takes care of liability.

That supposed to be some kind of great bargain?

For one-day rentals, that is equivalent to an annual premium of nearly $9,125 - just for collision coverage. If the Mob sold insurance, it would probably cost less.

Sorry to be not more clear that $24.95 is for up to 42 days flat price. Can't win for losing.

I've posted a few times over the years about how to save money on rental cars. The biggest thing is to look at a couple different sites and don't forget all the various discounts.

Sometimes my company discount is better than AARP, entertainment or the various car company websites. Don't overlook SAMs and Costco, entertainment.com and carrentals.com. Also, a search for rental car discounts sometimes yields a good deal but there is a lot of junk to wade through. Sometimes just calling the company and saying you have this rate from another rental car company and can they match the price works. Whether you actually have the other rate is up to you.

I agree with book and rebook. Check the fine print on cancellations and no shows. It used to there was never a penalty. Some places are starting to charge. 50% savings is not uncommon. About 4-6 weeks out seems to be the sweet spot for rates but there are always last minute rates.

Before people start yipping about no shows, I once waited in line for 40 minutes to cancel a reservation and the booth person said you don't need to do that, it will cancel automatically.

The lowest cost reservation I have been able to make for our trip next week is with Advantage Rent A Car, a subsidiary of Hertz. As a Sapphire member of Boyd gaming, was able to make the reservation through the Boyd web site to reserve a large car for 8 days for $219.91 including all taxes and fees. This rate is about $100 less than any other rate I've seen.

Another benefit of the B Connected Slot club.

Just re-booked thru Costco on Budget from 9-11 to 9-18 for $122.00 mid-size total price. Full size was $144.00. My mantra: "keep checking until the day before you leave(they all require 24hrs advance reservation for a price) Local taxes now exceed the rental rate!

Nothing to do with Boyd-Costco travel has a rental car section for members for deals with Alamo, National, Budget and Avis.

Log on to www.Bconnected.com and click on the Benefits tab. Depending on what level players card is held, that level of discount will be offered through Advantage Rent-a-car. It appears to be a 5% discount for those who hold ruby cards, 7% for sapphire card holders, and probably something more for emerald.

I have to admit that I changed my own reservation yesterday to Budget as a Costco member and saved another $40.62 as a Costco/Budget full size car for 8 days is only $179.29 vs. a Boyd/Advantage full size car for 8 days was $219.91.

Avis was slightly more than Budget. Costco has an additional benefit in that their providers, Budget, Avis, Alamo, and Enterprise will permit spouses to drive the rental car if of proper age at no additional daily charge. Advantage (and many other rental car companies) wanted an additional $10/day for each additional driver.

Hope this helps. We'll be living the dream in LV tomorrow.
