Rental Car Tips

Hi Friends. On July 7th I booked a compact rental car for a week in Las Vegas for September 30th. At the time most sites were charging well in excess of $200 including taxes, but I booked the car through Costco's website for $170 (you must be a member of Costco because you may need to show your Costco membership card). But frugal me, I continued to surf the rental car websites on almost a daily basis. This morning, as I was surfing carrentals.com, a popup screen for hotwire.com also came up. They quoted me a price (taxes included) of $155. You know it'll be a major rental car agency but you won't know which one until you book. But then that got me to thinking...what's the price for my car this morning on costco.com? Turns out...$153 including taxes. Maybe the price will go even lower, but I doubt it. Even so, it pays to be frugal and continue to shop. Gawd I love a bargain!

Try signing up for Thrifty's Blue Chip Program. We recently rented a Chrysler Sebring in Vegas for a week for $180, that's including tax and fees. It's their frequent rental program and evcen thought I don't frequently rent, it works for me. You go directly to the cars without stopping at the counter.

The only problem is that the 4 cylinder engine in the Chrysler couldn't get out of it's own way. The car came with all power options including satellite radio.

Thanks, Chet. Another good deal. Don't ya just love a bargain, especially since the Vegas rental car prices have seemingly gone through the roof? Hard to understand how the various agencies can charge so much down there when their economy is in the toilet.
