Reno Weekend

Went to Reno with a couple friends over the weekend. Big thanks to
everyone from the lists who answered my questions about Silver Legacy.

Left Berkeley 7:20pm. No traffic problems. Made trip in a short 4
hours, including dinner at one of those cheesy highway fast food
places I happen to like.

Went with 2 friends. Silver Legacy always says they can't provide a
rollaway bed in the rooms due to fire code or something. But one of
my friends is a youngster who was willing to sleep on floor in
exchange if room was free.

I'd talked to host over phone, & had booked room for free on Friday,
$70 casino rate for Saturday.

Found progressive quarter FPDW. Progressive was at $1060+ and moving
slowly. Great play, but pretty much impossible to play enough to
fully comp room & meals at that rate.

I'm strictly recreational, & I don't mind an expected 50 buck loss or
something if it'll get me a free room & food & entertainment. So my
strategy here was to hit the deuces wild for a few hours, & then use
the 50-/100-play FP JOB to fill in enough points for the comps. My
friends are newer players, so it was mostly on me to rack up the
points.

The 50-/100-plays are outside the High Limit area. Like the FPDW, had
no problem finding an open machine during our stay. I played 20 lines
of nickels, about my speed as far as tolerable variance. Without
pushing myself, able to get about 125 points/hour this way. According
to the slot booth, 500 points gets a comp room for a night (1000
would get a suite).

From late late Friday through checkout (delayed till 1pm Sunday at
our request), we collectively got around 1300 points. When leaving,
went into the VIP room near hotel desk. The guy there called to check
with a host, & then comped both room nights, our Saturday breakfast
buffet, & our Sunday meal at Sweetwater Cafe (a bit over $60 in food
costs, which we'd charged to the room).

On Saturday night we had good real pizza at Brew Brothers which was
something like $10/person including sodas; we could charge to room,
but not comp I guess because it's El Dorado not SL. They also didn't
comp the $11 in-room movie Saturday night.

Before heading back, we spent a couple hours at the Atlantis. I liked
the atmosphere. We had lots of fun at the 50-/100-play machines with
FP JOB for pennies, 2-cents, or 5-cents. Played 2-cent, 50-games
mostly. Got an $80 Royal, which (along with dealt quads at 20-play
nickels at SL) was my biggest pay of trip.

I'm going to spend more time at Atlantis next trip. While the 50-/100-
plays are of course negative expectation, they do seem like a way to
get good comps with mostly small losses. I could mix that play with
some quarter Double Bonus & I think get my comps more easily than at
Silver Legacy, & they say the buffet is good.

Also liked the "ticket-in ticket-out" at Atlantis, compared to Silver
Legacy, where as of now you still need a hand pay every damn time at
the 50-/100-play machines. Wonderfully bad 70s music at both places,
just the way I like it, though maybe a bit easier to hear at Atlantis.

They also didn't comp the $11 in-room movie Saturday night.

I have had everything comped in various casino hotels in Las Vegas,
Reno and Mesquite...except the in room movie charges.

My guess is that there are hard dollars having to be paid to some
cable TV type company.
