Here are some cursory notes from a weekend observation:
SILVER LEGACY
There are two banks (at least) of MG VP, near the NE corner of the
casino, that offer "body temperature" games (99.6/99.7%). There are a
couple of weird variations, including "USA Poker", which is All-
American but only paying 30 for quads, "Super Double Double Bonus
Plus", or something like that, which is exactly like 9/6 DDB, except
the non-bonus quads pay 80 instead of 50 if the kicker is an Ace
(adds about .5%). But the salient feature is NSUD at .25, .50, and $1
denoms. These banks are located right next to a bank of those noisy
multiline penny machines that go into histrionics every time somebody
wins sixteen dollars. (Probably, because of the claustrophobic low
ceilings, the noise, and the smoke, the most annoying location in the
casino, which is why these machines are there.)
I could not confirm the existence of the FPJW on the second floor; I
couldn't find them, but I'm not certain I looked everywhere. So, they
may or may not be MIA.
ELDORADO
I had never found decent VP there, to the extent that I had never
even bothered to get a slot card. So much to my surprise, I can
confirm the existence of the MGers reported in the database---10/7 DB
in .25/.50/$1, a rarity in Reno these days. The bank is not
distinctive in any way from the dozens of other banks that contain
dreck; it is located near the poker room in the SE corner of the
casino.
CAL-NEVA
They have modified their really good $200 sign-up offer; now, you
earn accelerated free play credit on your first $200 of play. Good,
but not as. I didn't see anything playable there in a 15-minute
walkthrough.
PEPPERMILL
There are lots--lots and lots--of .25/.50/$1 3-Play/5-Play with NSUD
and 9/7 Triple DB (also, most have 9/6 JOB). Two banks near the
sportsbook, one bank near the high limit area, and one bank near the
slot club, among others. I estimate at least 30 such machines.
STEAK HOUSE @ the Peppermill
One of the best meals I've had in a long time, and much less
expensive than other similar places. Soup, salad, a HUGE ribeye with
steak fries, and beverage came to $45.
STERLING BRUNCH @ Silver Legacy
This is quite a spread, comparable to the best of the Sunday brunches
in Vegas. All-you-can-drink champagne and orange juice, a terrific
omelet station, and plenty of other goodies--very heavy on the smoked
fish, oysters, crab legs, etc., all good quality. Excellent desserts.
Only $26.
Comps are easy at the Legacy, still easy (although oddball, as usual)
at the Peppermill. Mailed offers from both places have been
excellent. (Legacy in particular: I have a free entry in a VP
tourney, two tickets to see the Moody Blues, and two free nights, all
for next weekend, and I CAN'T GO---WAAAAAAAH!)
It seems that Reno is offering a lot better value than Vegas these
days. Additional benefit: the airport is a breeze to get in and out
of, not like the existential horror of McCarran Airport in Vegas.
