This is going to be a RAMBLIN' trip report of a four day weekend that my
wife and I just spent in Reno. It is going to be stream of
consciousness. Just random thoughts and impressions. So, sit back with a
six-pack or two and put your feet up. The report is about to begin.
We flew in on Southwest from home. There are no direct flights, but
since we were flying West, we left home at 10 am and arrived in Reno
around 1 pm on a Thursday. We were staying at the Eldorado (switching
over to the personal prounoun for the rest of the report), my FAVORITE
casino in Reno BY FAR. I have been at the platinum level for over ten
years there. Also, the same level at the Peppermill and the Atlantis. We
make about 3-4 trips to Reno each year. For you stat freaks, we put
about 25-35k a day coin in. My game(s) of choice is either NSUD or JOB
Progressives. I will now digress.
I have NEVER understood how someone can play three to five different
games on a single trip and be accurate playing all of the games. Hell, I
have trouble playing TWO games accurately. In fact, my current MO is to
make a decision on which game I plan to play on a particular trip and
play ONLY that game. By the time I leave for Reno, I am playing my
chosen game at 99.5% or higher and 50% of the mistakes are physical as
opposed to lack of knowledge. Bottom line... one game per trip. My only
fear is that when I elect to play NSUD on the trip and it turns out that
the JOB progressives are high. This trip... NSUD. Returning to the trip
report.
Our limo was waiting to take us to the Eldorado. We checked in to our
favorite type of room. Classified as a "Player's Suite", it is just a
nice 600 sqft room on a corner with a great view of the Sierra foothills
or Downtown Reno depending on which corner the room is on. I have had
bigger and nicer rooms, but the player's suite is my favorite. I think
that is because it fits my level of comfort. A bigger, nicer room puts
me under (subconscious) pressure to play more to merit the RFB. The
Eldorado has slightly enhanced the room since our last visit. In the
past, they had a cabinet at the foot of the bed and a button near the
headboard that, when pressed, caused the TV to rise out of the top of
the cabinet. Cool, but just a regular TV. Now, they have added a couch
at the end of the bed and mounted a 42" HDTV in one corner of the room.
This is particularly nice because in the past the TV could not be
watched by two people if one was in the jacuzzi and one was in bed. Now
it can. Thank gawd. What are we? Barbarians? The best news of all,
however, is that there was FREE Internet access via the TV. I THINK (not
100% sure) that it is that way in all grades of room, but don't quote me
on it. You should probably confirm that before you book your room; your
mileage may vary. Anyway, it took a little bit of getting used to the
keyboard, but I could easily check my email and other "important" sites.
For the most part, I was barely on the Internet the entire trip. It was
nice to be able to get my flight home boarding passes on line. Nice
touch, Eldorado. It is funny how the small things make a difference to
the enjoyment of the trip. To wit... I am anal when it comes to my
clothes. I iron EVERYTHING. OK, everything that can be seen by the
average person. This means I am a person who uses the ironing board in
the room. In the past, the iron was tethered to the ironing board and
sat in a metal holder. This was ackward since it made it hard to fill
the iron with water as well as shortening the length of the board by
about a foot. This trip... New iron, not attached. Life is good. Let's
go play.
Ya know what? I am going to post this now so I don't run the risk of
losing it and pick up the trip in Part II. See ya there.
