Reno trip report: April 18 to April 25, (long)

Thank's for your help, I am going to print out your directions and look for those machines on oour July trip. I did see one of the new Pick a Pair machines, but it was not the 99.95% pay table.

We are gold and have been for several years, but somehow our karma won't allow us to connect with a host. We even had trouble getting a limo the first time we asked and it clearly states that gold gets a limo, they at first told us that it was only for diamond and platimum, we had to ask for a supervisor to get it. They also claim that gold does not get preferred restaurant reservations even though it states on the schedule, again I think you need a host for that. But I think with the references the members here have given us, we should be able to connect up next trip.
We only have ever really played at the Peppermill and in Reno so no experience with hosts elsewhere. That is maybe why I sound so clueless.

Thanks again to everyone.

It's good to see a nice trip report, thanks for posting!

A few comments:

We set out Wednesday morning for the VIP lounge as had been suggested, to
meet a host and talk about our level of play, but were told (1) there is no
separate host for Video Poker, contrary to what the VP Free database said

True, there is no separate VP host. There is a staff of hosts and executive
hosts. I'm surprised that they wouldn't page a host for you. Maybe because
you didn't ask for a particular host and weren't already rated as "Gold"
status or above, they didn't pursue it. We've found with other casinos that
calling a host directly (usually through a recommendation) that if we tell
them about the level that we play other places we can set up a relationship
right away even before we've set foot in the casino for the first time. If
you typically put in enough play that you get hosts at other casinos, I
would expect that you could get a host at the Peppermill via this route.

An introduction to a host from a friend that's a high roller should also do
the trick.

and that (2) they would not call one for us to talk to. The girl suggested
pretty rudely that we should talk to the people in the information booth,
who were also unwilling to call a host for us to speak to.

The Peppermill is conscious of the tier status of their players, and it
makes a big difference in how much attention you will get. The way to get
around this is to find a way to establish a relationship with a host, and
until you get in enough play to achieve a high tier level, make most of your
contact through that host. Of course, the host will expect you to be
putting in play.

I could not find pick `em machines the database says are near the Blue
Reno.

Since the Peppermill went to all TITO machines, I think they removed all the
Bally VP machines in the casino, and I think therefore that there's no
Pick'em. Pick'em is a Bally game and is usually on the GameMaker platform,
Pick-a-Pair is IGT's version of the same game.

I also looked for the FPDW in the alcove by the Fish Bar that the trip
report to 4/17 reported but did not see. I may have not been looking for
the right pay schedule.

The layout of the Peppermill is very confusing if you are unfamiliar with
it, and that bank of machines is in a little alcove that's hard to find if
you don't know where it is already. If you are facing the entrance to the
Fish Bar from the various $1 upright progressives outside, then look to the
right and there's a cozy alcove with a couple (maybe 3) short banks of slant
tops in it. One bank of the slant tops has the $.25 10 coin FPDW.

We got down to the Qube bar where we play the most, 9 6 job in 25c and
$1.00 and NSUD, double bonus is only 9/7, don't think there is any 10/7
left in the Casino.

There's plenty of 10/7 DB in the casino, but there are tons of machines
thoughout the casino, and I can see how you might give up looking. At the
$1/$2/$5 level, the easiest place to find 10/7 DB is in the high limit area,
and the Oceano bar has $1 10/7 DB with a progressive. Across from the Fish
Bar, there's a long row of MG/MD upright machines, at least half of which
have 10/7 DB with progressive on the RF, SF and quad aces. There are also
some other machines on the same progressives if you hunt for them, but this
is the easiest place to find them. There are 3 machines with $.05 (10 coin)
10/7 DB progressives upstairs near the Rainbow Bar.

I would have checked out more machines but was uncertain what the Casino
policy is toward people making notes about the machines.

As far as I know, there's no policy about making notes about the machines.
I've done it many times in the past. Floor personel have said that it's OK
to play with cheat sheets out in the open.

We have been coming to the Peppermill for about 5 years, but this is the
first trip where we really put money thru.

Hmmm, if you are gold level or above, I'd expect you to have a host by now,
and if not that might explain why they weren't helpful in the VIP lounge.
In any case, that treatment from them does seem odd if you've been going
there a while.
